Float Bowl Overflow and the Motion Pro Temporary Gas Tank
« on: April 09, 2019, 12:59:05 PM »
Hey Everyone,

I learned a pretty tough lesson over the last 2 weeks and thought I'd share as a way to pay back a little for all the great stuff I've learned here.

Working on my 77 550K. It has PD46A carbs on it and they needed some care. I won't go into the whole story. The info I found here worked great.

My problem came when I had them cleaned and back together. I was trying to set the float height using the neat "clear tube" technique I learned here. As you can see in the attachment, I built a little stand and I have the Motion Pro temporary tank.

I had carbs 1, 3, & 4 working just fine but #2 would overflow every time. No matter how clean the jet or needle, new or old needle, different bowls, different float heights... nothing would stop the overflow.

After many, many, (I'm embarrassed to think of how many) hours, I finally realized it was too much fuel flowing into the carbs. Every time I tested, I just automatically opened the Motion Pro valve 100%. When I finally tested with the valve at 50%, magic! It worked fine. It took less than 5 minutes to get #2 set to the right level and all is well.

Anyway, cheers!

FYI, you may still have problems with that leaky crab when you mount the real gas tank with the crabs.

I mount my aux tank from my ceiling and open the valve all the way. You have to correct your leak otherwise it may come back to bite ya later.

What brand needle/seat?
