Airbox renewal
« on: April 12, 2019, 06:10:20 PM »
I am restoring a 1972 K2 750. This bike lived most of its life in the sun of LaLaLand. The airbox finish suffered. I have applied Mother's "Back to Black liberally resulting in some improvement. Any suggestions for further renewing the original shine?

sometimes the mother's requires multiple applications...you will see improvement every time
If it works good, it looks good...

I found back to black fades quickly. I used to use tire shine instead on the plastic trim on my Jeep. It held up for much longer without needing to be reapplied.
And depending on the plastic a bit of light heat can really make it look fresh again. (Also something I used to do to my Jeep plastic)
(PS I don't know at all how heat will work on the airbox plastic and if you choose to attempt it I would be cautious obviously)

A heat gun will return it to almost new condition. Take your time and watch carefully as the color starts to change.

I was fortunate enough to acquire an NOS upper airbox for mine.  Haven't decided yet to use it or sell it.
