Oil flow question
« on: April 14, 2019, 02:12:43 PM »
On the 750 engine where the alternator / cover is located there is a gasket to seal the mating surface between the case and cover. How much oil is going to be in this area? Is it basically an area where oil always resides to some extent or is it there to contain a little oil if the crank seal leaks. I have a little oil weeping there and before I pulled to cover to check I just wanted to have a crank shaft seal on hand or a new gasket.........Thanks.

Oil will be there since there is passage inside. Lean bike to other side like side stand angle. No problem to remove both covers if needed, alternator and gear shifter. Dry gaskets should be enough for no leaks. Aware of ruined threads. Max torque 8-10Nm. Lower is better and retighten the day after.

Thanks, that makes sense. I'll get some new gaskets this week and fix my leak.
