timing specs and YOUR bike
« on: April 14, 2019, 01:48:18 PM »
So after checking the ignition timing on my 75 400f I found it to be way too advanced(probably around 15-20 degrees over advanced). I reset it to factory specs and found very little change in performance(maybe lost a bit of top end power and slightly lazier right off idle) but what was strange was that even with how far over-advanced it was I saw no ill effects, no pinging, no slow crank, nothing.

That leads me to ask the question...what do YOU set your timing too? Factory specs?,a bit advanced?, alot advanced?, retarded?. Just kinda curious as to find out what everyone does and why. Thanks for your input, Doug.

I set it a bit over advanced, I don't have any measurement. Since the only ethanol free fuel I can get is Shell premium 91 octane, that's what I use. I don't know if it would ping with "regular" 87 octane fuels. This a 400F with 458 kit and mild Megacycle cam (don't have the grind # at hand).
