Recent build, won't run correctly.
« on: April 17, 2019, 06:32:14 PM »
About the bike, suzuki gs550 motor converted with cb550 PD carbs. With an air box, drag pipes, baffles.

I had the bike running perfectly for one moment and riding around a while, after that- i'm now getting these symptoms:
-difficulty starting.
-wont idle without the choke, once I turn off the choke -bike dies.
-won't accelerate, give it any throttle and I get popping out the exhaust and through the carbs.

Here's what I've done to diagnose (checking air, fuel, and ignition):
-checked for vacuum leaks, spraying carb boots. no leaks
-pulled the carbs, idle jets are clear.
-checked the resistance on the coils, spark plug caps, wires.
-all cylinders are firing.

Thank you.

Pull the plugs and examine them. Quite probable you fouled them so badly they won't re-fire.

after chasing down the issue, I found that exhaust pipes 2-3 were a 100 degrees hotter than pipes 1-4.
plugs 2-3 seem fine, 1-4 are gas fouled. leads me to think its ignition related.

I got the bike running again. It turns out 1-4 points were out of adjustment. Thanks for your help.
