750 Breadbox Velocity Boots - COMPLETE. REDESIGN 8-9-19
« on: April 17, 2019, 02:52:39 PM »
Just received my breadbox intake and the rubber mounting boots are quite chewed up. Has anyone found a source for remanufactured ones? Used aluminum style ones or the stock style ones successfully modified to seal against the box?

The boxes often just use the stock connectors from the OEM airbox. Replacements for the stock 750 rubber stacks are available on ebay and from a variety of websites.

These are the style this box uses. They are shorter, stock boots look like they would be far too long to fit inside the box.

You will not find useable replacements anywhere unless they are attached to another box and you already know that these are not that easy to find.  So, if oem boots don't fit, you are back waiting in line.  I have used oem boots in two different breadboxes but the boxes themselves were available in several dimensions, so you are on your own as far as fitment.

Ordered a set of aluminum stacks from dime city. Going to mate them to the breadbox lid with some sealant and DIY magic.

Have 2 ideas in motion at once on this project. Going to use a step bit to open up the breadbox holes enough to let the aluminum v.stacks slide in backwards, then seal them up with a rubber grommet on the box side and some silicone adhesive sealant. At the same time I'm also looking into lengthening the box. Have a sheet of clover cut 304 coming, looking to increase the surface area to 200% (from a 2" height to a 4" height) will have to see how it all tolerates the extra height, additional braces possibly?

How big are the holes in the bread box? If they are real close to 41mm mayne get a set made like for a antipod. The fellow is still making them. I had a set made this year.

The 304 mesh for the inner screen came today. I forgot to take pictures of it before applying the duct tape. It is 4" tall, the mesh sheet was too short so it is two 16" pieces that overlap at the short ends and are secured to each other using twisted 22g wire. The duct tape is just to close the sides off to prevent cross flow. Uni Filter 60ppm is being used for filtration. The outer mesh will arrive around Tuesday and I'll try to remember to take more photos for that one.

The aluminum stacks will be here tomorrow so I can finish mockups and determine how large I need to bore the holes over. With the potential added height the aluminum stacks shouldn't need to mount as far out of the box, though flush to nearly would likely be the most desirable outcome regardless of filter depth.

Decided to do first mockup with the internal screen. Changed the hardware to 1/4-20 just for ease of acquiring. Have 2.5" for stock height and 4.5" for the lengthened box.

Have not made it that far yet. Just trying to make sure that I can increase the volume inside the breadbox if need be depending on how the stacks need to sit inside of it.

Stacks just arrived! Pretty excited that they are also only about 60mm in length, so I may not even need to lengthen the breadbox and be able to have the belled end sit right against the bottom of the intake.

Several hours later, the lid is bored out. The 60mm step but wasnt sharp enough to bore the hole out from the 39mm all the way to 60mm, so a ~55mm hole was traced and cut with a cutting wheel on a dremel then finished off to the 60mm with the step bit. The 60mm hole is 4-5mm smaller than the flared end of the stack so the stack will sit right up against the inside of the lid, making clearance not an issue.

I thought about it but I won't know until I do a full mock up. The lid is decently thick, so it may not need it.

Top and bottom are off to be powder coated (pitting from rust was too far for a sand and polish). I will update once I have them back.

Figuring out the best method of attaching the stacks to the lid proved to be a little more time consuming than previously thought. I used 60mm grommets in the holes as the mounting point for the lid attached with silicone adhesive. The rubber grommets allow the stacks to still have flexibility and adjustability when mounting them to the carbs for a proper fit. I plan to smooth out the silicone once it's had sufficient curing time.

Trimmed and smoothed the silicone inside the lid, then filled additional silicone in on the backside for a more secure hold. Once that finishes curing, I can clean any remaining bits and bolt it up to my extra carbs for a sizing reference.

All buttoned up. Ended up trimming maybe 1/4 off the inside screen at the short sides for clearance to the stack. Other than that it all went smoothly.
