This is a factory kit, which seems lighter

I was planning on doing something like this ending up with 961gram instead of 1.112gram (calculated).
But I've never seen clutch baskets been really lightened like this on our Honda's.
Just copied the idea from other types of baskets and I figure there's much more weight to be saved if you really want to.

Thanks.  That’s about what I was thinking👍

I saw this modified one from a Ducati Pantah.  Pretty severe regarding meat left.

Can't help you with photos George, but it would seem given the pics of the Pantah, CR, & Captain's that drilling x2 holes is the prefered method re the fingers.  I would think the piece between the holes acts like a brace to the side loads created by the clutch plates, and would be a stronger solution than slots.

Again, all modern Ducati baskets...  slotted fingers are actually more prevalent than double holes.  I’m guessing the available tooling might have had something to do with it.  The first one in the previous post was reportedly lightened by hand.  A simple fixture and careful work with a drill press and quality bits can handle the holes.  A big accurate milling machine or CNC would be needed for the slots.

I think that the availability of "better" machines and knowledge to operate them is mostly the key difference between slots and holes.
That being said a factory applied slot seems to be mostly a triangle shaped in the baskets I've seen.

To be fair, many of the fancy Ducati baskets are CNC billet aluminum, some even have scallops instead of holes on the fingers.

You can do the slot by hand after drilling the 2 holes  but it may be out of balance..
Bert Munroe would not have thought twice about it.

The trick is to lay out the sides with dye and a scriber.  And then grindinging filing to line.
The hole drilling can easily be indexed on a drill press, after making a centering /clamping plug.

And your are making around 1/2 the power of a Ducati.

The early K model baskets (left) are a bit lighter stock than the later ones(right) with the scalloped ends.  Is there an advantage to using the later baskets regarding clutch pack stack height?

Honda must have thought there was an advantage, they spent time and money to change them. I have no idea of the why and how though. Often changes are more related to longevity than performance. Warranty claims get the attention of everyone in the finance and engineering dept's.
