Never used to wear one of those poofter face mask thingies while on the grinder, buffer...

My thinks I will get one now, have had stuff fling outa me mits and ya had to go lookin for it in the shed...

Get better amigo. I can't say I religiously wear the face shield when on the grinder (you’d think I’d tire of picking pieces of wire out my face -cheap HF wire wheels) but your experience will make me do better. For a couple of days anyway.

I did that once, only with a chainsaw, cut all the way into my sinus cavity. It cut from my hair line (which was much closer to the front of my face than it is now) and through my eyebrow. I cried like a little girl when I opened my eye for the first time and I could still see.

Terry heal soon and I know the world class head ache you had, I feel for you pal! Btw it was at least 4 months before I could raise both eyebrows. But I was back to work after only 1 day off, so don't be a pussy, ok?

Ha ha, thanks guys, and yep, if this isn't a timely warning to wear goggles or a face shield when grinding/polishing/chain sawing (ouch, that must have been horrible Jgger!) well I don't know what is. I'm going to Bunnings to buy a nice clean new one this week before I finish that clutch, I really wanna ride the old rat sooner rather than later.

I went to my GP today to have it checked and to have the dressing changed. Dr Laura wasn't there, so I saw Dr Paaree. He's a nice young guy, and after he read the letter from the hospital he corrected me, he said, "No, you haven't just broken some bones, you've shattered them, and you can't go back to work until the plastic surgeon has had a look at you" so I'll be taking the rest of the week off, which will no doubt piss my boss off, but fcuk him, it's not like we're busy, this is the public service, remember. I've got an appointment at 9am on Friday, so I guess we'll see what happens next.

I am really enjoying the drugs they gave me, Endone and Tramadol, with some over the counter Phenergan taken at bed time ensures that I drop off to sleep and don't wake up for 4 or 5 hours, so when I do I just take some more, and they keep me going until late morning. Wonderful stuff. Thanks again for all the well wishes, and I will be finishing this project very soon.

Ha, my missus said I had to use my Kevlar bike pants if I was chainsawing, she wasn't going to be wasting money on proper safety gear, if I was silly enough to damage them she'd see about maybe replacing them.......

I'm in Mulgrave, but in January, we're relocating to Warragul. I just retired after 36 years, 10 months in the public service. I was in the old super scheme (CSS), so I was able to finish under the "54/11" rules (quit your job at 54 years, 11 months of age, then draw a ridiculously generous pension at 55 years of age).

Yes, it's quite an eclectic collection. I hate the attention the CBX gets, because I bought it 34 years ago, when no-one wanted them, and I just liked it. Now it's looked at as a engineering "tour de force". What a lot of crock! It's a similar story with the 350 four. When I bought that, it was considered a lemon, but I liked how it looked. A spare parts guy at Peter Stevens described it as "All revs, no go". It's amazing how, when callow teens become old farts, they suddenly decide a sedate 350 four cylinder bike is "desirable". A mechanic described my Kawasaki as "A heap of sh*t that you'll only ever have trouble with". I didn't care, it's an awful bike that is too noisy, vibrates too much, has a lousy drum brake, and has questionable handling. But when you "ride it like you stole it", it's hard to wipe the smile from your face. I bought the Morini hoping to join the brotherhood of Italian bike owners. Turns out, when you own a Morini, most Italian bike owners ignore you! The Bandit was a recent purchase. A few weeks back, I was having fun drag racing a BMW bike off from the lights. The cheeky beggar said "Not bad for an old man bike!".

Don't worry about the thread jacking, Terry won't be allowed out to play with his bike for a few days yet, we can all continue chatting and taking the p1ss until he's back in the garage further endangering his chances of actually making it to retirement

It's always good hearing someone else justify their choice of bikes ( no offence intended )
I've always been fascinated by the big 6's though the Z13 was always the one I wanted
The little ones not so much, I'm what homer would describe as a husky gentleman as well as 6'5" so the tiddlers have never held too much interest
I did get given a mach III years ago ( in many pieces ) which I put back together but never got started and had to sell ( due to an unwise investment in a totally shagged XS650 )
And as for the bandit, I've had many a drag race with one of my mates on his against my vmax ( we're probably about equal on the results there)

I'm currently without a sohc4, just swapped my last one to Terry for a zzr11 and I've got the vmax waiting for summer to get out spinning the back wheel off the line

Thanks Guys, and congrats on your retirement mate, I wish I could afford to retire, but that might happen soon anyway, we'll see. Warragul's a great location, country living, cheap houses on big blocks, and only an hour or so's drive to the city. Make sure you lock your bike collection up, if it's like my home town, (Bairnsdale) there's a lot of bike and car theft. I imagine that like me, you've got everything insured with Shannons, so no biggie if something does go missing, apart from the emotional side of it. That reminds me, I better insure the Swamp Rat now that it looks like a bike again.

Well I've managed to score two more bikes this week. My son Tim bought a CX500 a few years ago (at my suggestion) and we started to chop the frame up to turn it onto a mild custom, just in time for the government to tighten up the rules on their club permit scheme, so the CX500 never saw the light of day. I've been looking for a stock frame ever since, so I can do a light resto on it, and take it for a ride. It "ran when parked", but that was a long time ago, so I'm just hoping I haven't seized it. Anyway, I think I've found a frame for it in Sydney, so I made Tim an offer he couldn't refuse, and the "Plastic Maggot" is now mine. Sweet.....

Much better than a poxy CX500 though, is another CB750. Just as I was feeling a little sad that the Swamp Rat will probably be sold within the next few weeks, another 750 has landed in my lap. And not just any CB750, but my favourite model, a K1! Woohoo! A week or so ago, a guy on FB said he'd bought it, but wasn't sure what he wanted to do with it, so I offered him a fair bit more than he'd paid for it. He said he'd think about it, and I promptly forgot about it. He contacted me again last night and said I could have it, so I explained that I'm not very mobile at the moment and sent him a pic of my beautiful face, and he offered to drop it off at my place. What a great guy!

Now as you'd expect, it's in a million pieces, and not complete, but it is a complete engine (seized) and a frame, and some wheels and other bits, but once again, with the stuff I already have in my garage, I might be able to build another bike without too much trouble. All going well, he'll drop it off tonight, and I'll post some pics of my latest haul. Apart from my poor old busted face, life is good........

Thanks Vik, yeah, I found the clutch plate down the back of the pedestal grinder yesterday when I went out to the garage to get a Ginger Joe out of my beer fridge. What I think's happened is the wire wheel on my pedestal grinder has snatched the clutch plate out of my hand, and flung it back into my face at 1000 RPM, like a steel frisbee.

It's hit me across the bridge of my nose, smashing my nose, and the small bones around it, but I think my glasses stopped it from chopping into my eye, and the trauma to my left cornea was probably the lens of my glasses (which is still AWOL) hitting my eye, while at the same time protecting it from the sharp edge of the clutch plate. As Morini said, it could have been worse, if it hit me in the mouth, it could have taken my teeth out. I've only been back on solid foods for a few months after some complications from my stomach surgery, so I wouldn't be too happy if I couldn't eat again for awhile.

Were you wearing gloves of any sort...

I presume your grinder turns clockwise, was it free hand or on a rest...

If clockwise me thinks the plate hit the floor first and bounced up and got ya, prolly thats why youre here to tell the tale

With gloves ya loose grip, ya cant win...!!!

Ya must be better if ya suckin piss already...
