Yep, she looks great I think!
Have you decided to keep her or are you still planning on selling her?
You have dug into your stash of NOS parts and bought a lot of new parts for her. Consider the cost of picking up replacement parts to restock those same parts...not cheap.
If you sell it, the guy will replace the exhaust with new, tell him you want the pipes back when he tears it down. That is if you intend to put together another 750 down the road...that is what I would do. My unsolicited $0.02. :)
She really is starting to turn into a head turned...more of original survivor vibe than restored bike.

Thanks David, well the potential buyer was either very busy this morning, or he might have got the hint, because he just said good morning and kept going, instead of asking for updates? I think I'll either have to sell this one or my K2 bitsa bike from 2017, so I'll take them both for a ride, and decide then? It won't hurt to put some money back in the bank, I've spent too much on motorcycle stuff, and if the wife finds out that all these boxes that keep arriving aren't for a charity I'm collecting for the church, my health will become a major concern! ;D

Well the weather is pissing me off at the moment, I've got 4 days off, and this is day two, but it's still raining on and off all bloody day, which is really annoying. So near, and yet so far....... Anyhoo, a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do, so I removed the pipes, tank, seat, battery etc, to reduce a bit of weight, and hooked up the patient lifter. I got my big strong son to give me a hand and steady the bike as I hauled it off the bench, and we were both happy that it landed the right way up.

Swamp Rat Sunday 3 Nov 2019 3 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

I rolled it onto the driveway for the first time as a motorcycle, which felt pretty fcuking wonderful, to be honest. Not a "Doctor Frankenstein" moment, but I was momentarily overcome with happiness, that another CB750 was getting very close to being back on the road. My big muscle bound son was impressed with the patient lifter, for something so spindly looking, to be able to raise a huge fat motorcycle up off the bench, and gently lower itself to the concrete floor. It is a wonderful device.

OK, so trying to work outside again between rain showers, I decided to install the new air filter. It was interesting to compare it to the EMGO filter I had lying around in the garage, the EMGO didn't fit properly, and the foam seals on the EMGO were so high that the airbox didn't close properly. What a POS. The new filter was much better.

Swamp Rat Sunday 3 Nov 2019 1 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Then it rained again, so I did some machining in the garage until I realised I didn't have some bolts I needed to finish that job, so I came back inside, and watched Youtube videos for a couple of hours. I fell asleep, and when woke up, I looked outside and it was clear, so I raced out and fitted the seat, tank, battery and exhausts. Sweet!

Swamp Rat Sunday 3 Nov 2019 4 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

I had to buy some bolts to mount the exhausts, and due to the vagaries of my mind I made 3 separate trips to my local hardware store to eventually find the correct length bolts. I'd take the other 6 back, but they were cheap, and who knows? I might need them for something else.

Swamp Rat Sunday 3 Nov 2019 7 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

I'm so looking forward to firing this thing up, I filled the oil tank in anticipation, and thought about installing some new spark plugs, but I might wait until I've spun the engine over a few times to get the oil circulating. Ooh, and I better install the new oil pressure gauge I bought. Not original I know, but cheap insurance. ;D

You have had a big day, and still fitted a Nana nap in too, well done

My sum total of achievements this weekend has been shifting about 3600kg of woodchips from down the road to our front yard.....9 trips at 200kg a load....shovel them into the ute, shovel them out of the ute..... knackered and back to work tomorrow...... bollocks.....enjoy your long weekend

Hopefully there will be some big Z activity on Tuesday, fcuked if I know how those throttle cables hook up in the switch block......does it really need 2 cables ?  Sohc 750's can do without the push cable , why not a zzr ?........

Thanks guys, well a package arrived from 4 into 1 that will get me even closer to finishing the red rat, and the sun is out, so as soon as I get home from doing some errands this morning, I'll get back into it. I'd love to think I'll have it done in the next week or so, but who knows? One thing I do know is that the big black Kawasaki is next in line for some hard love. ;D

Well the sunny weather was very short lived, and by the time I got home it was raining, and it hasn't stopped all day. Oh well, there's still tomorrow, hopefully. I got sick of sitting on my butt, so went out to the garage and looked for something to fix.

A few months ago I got sucked in by an advert on FB for a bearing puller. It looked the goods, but in reality, it was a cheaparse piece of chinese sh1t. As soon as I applied a bit of pressure on the thing, the bridge bent like a banana. I don't like throwing stuff out, so today I jumped on the worlds filthiest lathe, and made a new bridge from a big chunk of 28mm steel hex.

Terry's modified bearing puller by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

I haven't tried it out yet as I didn't have anything handy that didn't have a retainer that would have been a pain in the arse to get out first, so I put it away in my bearing puller box, and will probably give it a go when I get around to swapping out the wheel bearings on the big Kawasaki. At least it killed the boredom for a couple of hours. It's still raining outside........ ;D

Ha ha, well we can test that theory once it's done Spotty, according to the previous owner it's making around 140 BHP at the back wheel, and I'm guessing it's a bit lighter than your VMax, so if I can make it go around corners too, it might be a real world VMax killer? He said that the best 1/4 mile time he could get out of it was high tens, but that was because he'd spin the back wheel for the first 60 feet with the #$%*ty road tyres he was using?

I better get off my arse and finish the Honda, so I can put my money where my mouth is! ;D

OK, so it was a great day overall, warm and sunny, and just great to be almost finished, as much as this has been a pretty easy build, I am happy that it now looks pretty much complete. I didn't want to rush anything today, but I did wonder if I'd actually get it going and ride it, but of course, that never happened, so instead, it was a "detail Day", just tidying up little things that needed a second look.

As previously mentioned, I had to use the rock hard OEM 47 year old carb insulators because the POS knockoffs I bought didn't fit. They're fine, they worked OK when I test fired the engine all those months ago, but I didn't have any nice clamps, so I bought these stainless 8mm wide worm drive clamps just for some bling, and I used mini cable ties to tidy up the band, a bit like a belt loop.

Tuesday Swamp Rat tinkering 5 November 2019 9 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

As I was still thinking about trying to start it, I thought I better prime the oil pump and get some oil up into the cam and rockers. It does look rather "Steam Punk", don't you think?

Tuesday Swamp Rat tinkering 5 November 2019 8 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

I bought an oil pressure gauge for it, slightly over-chromed fittings made for a very tight fit, but I figured that would help stop any oil leaks. I put oil pressure gauges on all my CB750's because I don't trust 47 year old oil sender units and light globes, and I do like gauges.

Tuesday Swamp Rat tinkering 5 November 2019 6 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

I remembered that I was missing the footpegs, so I located the original rusty ones off the bike, and gave them a clean up and a coat off paint, and replaced the buggared rubber.

Yes that pipe is really bad, but I've got a better one coming, that I will perform my party trick, "Terry's Cut and Shut" like I did on the blue K2 that you guys voted Bike of the Month back in 2010, or whenever it was? Anyway, I'll post some pics when it arrives. I replaced a couple of the blinker lenses with some NOS aftermarket ones that I've had for 20-odd years, "Dixie" brand from back in the day.

Tuesday Swamp Rat tinkering 5 November 2019 9a by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

OK, so I had just about everything connected up so I started playing with the wiring. I hate wiring. By the end of the day the only thing that worked was the kill switch and the neutral light. Fcuk it, time for a drink. It looks pretty good though.

Tuesday Swamp Rat tinkering 5 November 2019 1 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

I bled the front brake again, and was rewarded with a nice hard lever, (every man should be proud of his lever if it's nice and hard) I think I'll buy another right hand side switch assembly, the wiring in mine doesn't match the wiring in the new harness I bought, and I've further confused the issue by joining new wires to some of the other wires with different coloured wires out of necessity, so I'm hoping by doing that I'll be able to make sure everything is plugged in properly, and I can make fire. Fire is good. More soon. ;D

Thanks Guys, hopefully it'll be up and running by the weekend, even though the weather is supposed to be crap. Good thing is I have another red K2 with a license plate on it, so I might have to "borrow" it to take it for it's first ride.

Yep, getting excited, because not only is this one almost done, but once it's good to go I can finally start work on the "Mad Max" bike! ;D

Well I haven't sorted all of the electrical gremlins yet, but I'm getting closer. I was scratching my head trying to understand why my blinkers weren't a blinking with my shiny new chinese flasher can, so I swapped in a new Yamiya can, and suddenly, I had blinkers, yay! Er, except that my tail light is a blinking as well? Fark......

I don't like electronics, I think I've said that before? So I went looking for a lock for my seat. I was happy to find a good used one, and was gonna find a key and file it down, when I found a shiny new one in a box, woohoo!

Swamp Rat seat lock by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Then I remembered that it's the one I bought for my "Bitsa" project, I bought the seat lock, steering lock, and ignition switch, so I'm gonna have to swap the ignition switches over, so the swamp rat has the same keys for ignition, seat and steering lock.

Okay, so the blinkers stopped working and I was getting depressed. What could cheer me up? A running CB750 would be a good start! I connected the fuel lines to the tank, stole some fuel from my Harley, dumped it in that lovely red tank, pulled up the choke, gave it 2 kicks, and on the third one, it ran! Woohoo!

Okay, so it was getting late, I was drunk on my success (not to mention a couple of bottles of Ginger Ho, which is tasting better with every week) so I did a walk around, and packed up for the day. Tomorrow looks like a good day, I need to pull the clutch apart and check for a warped disc or two. Happy days! ;D

Good progress there Terry.
Your blinkers will still not flas?

I could not get the Yamiya flash relay ro work ob my K2 build either despite triple check how to connect the 2 wires. One connector on relay not used.

I found a much cheaper relay for old cars at a cheap auto store nearby with same round diameter as Honda relay.
This relay has only 2 connectors that fitted the Honda wiring. Worked direct.

Terry, well done mate - bike looks great.
If your tail light is flashing as well, sounds like you could have an earth problem. Have you checked all four indicators for a good earth (ground) and is the tail light earthed to the indicator circuit ?
Cheers - JT

Thanks Per, no, the Yamiya flasher can worked fine, the cheap chinese one didn't work. I have a problem with the electric starter, there is power to the solenoid when I press the button, but no click?

I've tried 3 solenoids so far, with no luck at all. Oh well, at least it starts easy with the kick starter now.

Thanks Jay, I'll check the earths when I go home today. The weather is supposed to be really good here today, then crap for the rest of the week, so I better make hay while the sun shines! (Plus I want to go for a ride) ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

OK,
I used a Yamiya solenoid on my Brown K2. It did not live long, gave up this summer after a few months.
Replaced it by a really cheap one from China I had ordered earlier before Yamiya purchace. I thought the cheap China one was too cheap.

Needed to crimp the connectors matching stock wriring.

After this incident I ordered 3 more, this time another seller since the first one no longer ship this way.

Also a crimp connector job to do.

My blue K6 has still it's original relay/solenoid

I’ve always wondered about using modern style tires like this on these bikes.. I wonder what effect they have on handling and stability.

All good mate, modern tyres make 'em handle like modern bikes! Well, maybe not as good as modern bikes, which all handle amazingly well, but it needs to be kept in mind that tyre technology has improved out of all sight since the 70's, so while some old style tyres look "appropriate" to old bikes, they don't stick to the road as well, especially in the wet.

Some companies have upgraded their old designs with softer, stickier compounds, which is a real bonus, but the tread design is still lacking. I know some guys like those old style tyres, and if they don't push them too hard they're fine, but some of those horrible old square tread pattern tyres are just stupid, unless they're on a sidecar outfit that doesn't actually lean over to turn. It just depends on whether you want to carve those mountain roads, or just pose around town. ;D

But back to the Swamp Rat. Yesterday was "Remembrance Day", when we all take a minute to think of all of our veterans who fought and died in battle. My grandfather, my great uncle and their father, my great grandfather, all fought in WW1, and were still there when the guns fell silent on the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, 101 years ago.

For me, it started out a great day, but turned to sh1t fairly early. It was a beautiful day, sunny, warm, and I couldn't get out of the office soon enough, so I could attack the clutch on the old rat. I removed the cover and it didn't look too bad, but on closer inspection, it was pretty awful.

Yes, there was rust..........

I couldn't be bothered cleaning it when I've got plenty of spares, so I found a better one.

I thought about doing the same thing with the plates, but this clutch had the special ant-rattle spring already installed, so I elected to clean the plates. Big mistake.

I separated the steels from the friction plates, and as the steels looked pretty good, so I decided to use the wire wheel on my pedestal grinder to give them a cleanup. All was going well, and I was just doing the last one, when, "BANG!" something hit me in the face, really hard. I'm not sure if I blacked out, but I do remember kneeling on the floor and reaching up to turn the power off, and I could see blood. I staggered towards the house and my oldest son came running out and helped me into the house, and my other boy called an ambulance.

Terry's broken face 11 Nov 2019 2 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

The paramedics put a bandage on my nose and eye, and took me to the nearest hospital, and for some reason an "administrator" put me on a chair in the waiting room, for 2 hours. I was feeling pretty lousy, but the hospital was really busy, so I figured there were folks ahead of me who were in worse shape, not that I could see much as my left eye was particularly sore, and I couldn't focus.

Anyhoo, a nurse eventually came to collect me, and she freaked out. She quickly took me into the ER, and got me some painkillers. The doctor came in, a young English bloke with a toffee accent and asked me "So what brought you in tonight?" I couldn't help myself, I said, "An ambulance?" Zing! The nurse pissed herself laughing while he looked at me like I was an idiot, which, in hindsight, I probably am. Anyway, he told me that I had some pretty good injuries, and would need a CT scan to see what was wrong with my beautiful face, and while we were waiting, he dressed the wound on my poor old nose, and did a vision test to see what was wrong with my left eye.

It turned out that I have an abrasive trauma on my cornea, but that's Ok, it'll get better with some drops, and he cleaned out my eye to make sure there was no wire or crap in there. That was the easy part. They took me in for the CT scan, and it turns out that my nose is broken, and so are some other bones around my nose. Bugger. Tomorrow I have to go see my GP and have the dressings changed, then when the swelling goes down, I have to see a plastic surgeon to see if I have to have surgery on my schnozz.

Oh well, it could have been worse, I could have lost me eye. My son found my glasses embedded in the garage wall, with the left lens missing, it was probably the lens that hit me in the eye, while at the same time, it probably protected me from the clutch disc. Luckily my glasses had plastic lenses, so it didn't shatter, I presume. I say "I presume" because we haven't found the lens yet. Anyhoo, it was a day that I'm unlikely to forget in a hurry. Hopefully I'll be allowed back outside to play with the old swamp rat again soon. ;D
