Hey Terry. Just wondering if the  bike can be registered here  ?
Heard stories of people bringing in bikes as parts and after reassembly couldn't register.

That's an excellent question Ken, I didn't have any problems registering my imported CB750K0 because I had a title for it from the seller (a member here) but I don't know if that'll work if the US title has got "Junked" stamped on it? Good thing is the original Aussie frame doesn't look to have been written off, so there are a couple of options there, that we won't talk about here. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Ooher, and I was looking at the front wheel yesterday and I noticed that there was Kangaroo fur stuck between the tyre and the rim on both sides where it was centrepunched by Boris @ 60 MPH. I wonder if the impact deformed the tyre so much that the 'Roo fur was able to be pushed into the tyres bead area momentarily? I didn't ask Boris how the Roo fared, but I'm guessing it wasn't all that well.......... ;D

Terry over here we havesalvage , which can be repaired, and inspected and re registered.
 And Dismanlte only.
Which can never see a new registration, you can off road race it, or part it out.
I think your Junk title is like the last ..
But as you are far removed from its origin, try to  get a simple receipt, with numbers.
Like I sold frame no #########  to OzTerry on xxx date.. for the sum of.

And maybe it will work , I hope..

Thanks Frank, I pretty much thought the same, as much as it would be cool to have an American RVT1000R to go with my Aussie VTR1000R, it might be either a "track only" bike, or I might do some number plate swapping so I can occasionally take it for a ride.......

The original frame doesn't appear to have any physical damage apart from some cracking in the TIG welds, so I'm almost tempted to take it to a welding shop and get the welds ground out and re-welded? The bike wasn't an insurance write off, so there's no reason why I can't register it with the original VIN number.

Anyway, plenty of time for all that, and lots of parts still needed. I've got to pick up Tim's new Royal Enfield 650 tomorrow and have a ratty CB750 to collect on the weekend, and need to move a couple of my other bikes into storage on Monday to make room in the garage, so I'll worry about the finer points of RC51 registration problems a bit further down the road......... ;D

My understanding is , Pre 88 needs an import approval from the Department of Infrastructure and transport. Post 88 is another Ball game with more hoops to jump through , costs etc. If its never been previously registered in Australia or without an import approval (pre 88 ) it aint happening. A bloke I know has a stunning MV Augusta 312  track bike . He swapped a registered ducati for it. After 2 years trying to get it on the road he gave up.

Yeah, you're probably right Ken, but there's more than one way to skin a cat, so not too worried about that right now........ ;D

i would not use the original frame , if the weld has cracked it has been hit well hard and there will be damage you cannot see .
if you were to xray it the cracks would look like a map of the london underground .

Thanks Simon, I'll take it to an engineer and see what he thinks. If it's no good, I won't use it for sure. ;D
