my muffler support weld probably broke on the way back from chicago, there is a very nice crack in my pipe now at the weld under the motor and it needs to be fixed asap. I guess its time to chop this off and weld on the cycle x slip on that i have laying around, get this bike sounding a little more refined.

I played with the chopper today because Im doing some drywall work in the garage, I noticed one of the oil lines is collapsed, time for new lines.

My buddy on the bike in the last one, I never see other people on it.

Couple updates

My exhaust came off today and the support bracket and the crack in my pipe was welded closed...here are some pictures.

I fired up my buddies bike with the lane splitters and the forward controls, its got an 836 and cam and this thing #$%*ing pulls It is AMAZING. Its incredibly comfortable, my feet naturally wanted to return to the forward controls with plenty of room for bulky boots, the handle bars feel great, its the most comfortable riding position on a CB I've been on. The forks are extended so that makes it feel heavy up front when sitting still or rolling the bike around the shop, I'm going to put 2"-3" risers on there so I'll be able to slide the forks through that much as well. I'm finishing up wiring on turn signals and rear brake light then I'll be riding this bike for a week to work out any kinks then I'm riding it to Valdosta Georgia as quickly as possibly to deliver it to him. I'll fly back home or rent a car one way. This is the second bike with an 836 and Im officially disappointed with my stock motor, Im excited to ride his bike around for the next couple weeks.

Next is the custom rack for my top box then this black bike is finished, then back to the cbr swap 750 i started.

Today was a good day.

Took the 750 grab bar off and installed the cb550 grab bar again, I did this because the 750 bar bends outward after the shock mount and thats the part that bends around the seat, the 750 grab bar just clears the seat, the cb550 grab bar was too tight. I flipped the grab bar upside down and used it as a top portion of the rack.
I’ll replace the flat stock supports on the side with some tube. Rode on 94 & 696 with no issues, might take it to Chicago tomorrow for a test run with weight in it. I can slide the seat out and off now and can access one hinge bolt from the outside and utilize the seat lock on the other side, at this point this build is completed.

In the winter I’ll pull the motor for an 836 kit, I’ve got about 1000 miles of life left on my rear, once it’s done I’m parking the bike. I’ll clean the bike and post some more pictures of it tomorrow.

Made it to Chicago this evening and started hitting consistent rain in Indiana, But it stayed warm. I had my top box loaded with at least 25-30lbs. And the bike did great and even rode better with the extra weight. I bought some sea foam and added it to the first couple tanks on this trip out. Last time I installed this box it sat out further than the rear wheel, even where I have it now the handle bars will wobble a little if I take my hands off. The givi box sells a passenger rubber pad for the box, it’s perfect where it is for me to lean back on. I’m glad I put rust oleum all over my welds since I saw all of this rain.

I’m not a good welder but I really took my time on them on this rack , 300 miles under load on 94 and no breaks! I’m happy

Edit, I moved the mounting plate forward some more. This will force me to remain in an upright position. The box doesn’t sit out further than the light anymore, but I do need to weld on a couple more cross supports the spread out the mounting hardware

Rack turned out great and sounds like you gave it a good test. Yeah, it started raining just as I was going to try and sneak a ride in, just worked in the garage all day.

My brakes are #$%*ing terrible in heavy rain. When I got onto lakeshore the traffic really backed up ans it was pouring on me, the first brake check my bike didn’t stop. Had to keep pressure on the lever and supplement with the rear to ensure stopping…once the rain stopped and it dried up my brakes were perfect again. They felt like they weren’t drilled at all.

600 plus miles on the rack, no issues. I ran sea foam through a few tanks on the trip and my bike is running much smoother. Crazy.

I have to say the GIVI top box has grown on me and I really liked the placement for when it was over the rear brake light. Looks really good all set up for touring. Very ingenious rack system! I always thought my Pelican case on the top was very useful (not very cool) but I think I prefer your top box though it is much bigger. I never had any handling issues. Also love the top box on my VStrom - has been super useful these last 11 years. Always enjoy your updates!

I noticed handling issues immediately when I had my box installed with the first rack i attempted and it was sitting out way further than the rear wheel. The best way to describe it was the front felt lighter and like it wanted to lift up all the time, in turns, it was incredibly wobbly and the front wheel feel like it didnt want to make contact with the pavement. Im surprised you dont feel any of that considering where your pelican box is sitting, crazy. Thank you for the compliments, there will be revisions to it.

BTW, possible that you might have a bit of glazing on the rotor?
A scrub with brake cleaner and a aggressive scotch right pad might improve your brakes performance in the rain and dry.

BTW, what pads are you using currently?

Yeah, we were looking at some from a few batches ago and these are some of the best we've gotten, some others were more on the yellow side.

I sanded my rotors a couple weeks ago to get rid of some glazing then they kept squeaking like crazy. I never installed new hardware in my calipers. I pulled out the pucks that were in there which were probably old as hell, hit them with the sand blaster because they had alot of life on them still. Still using old rubber lines. The poor breaking was during when my bike was saturated, it was a pressure issue and felt like the pucks were hydroplaning. But to answer your question, i have no idea what brand pucks are in there.

Old rubber lines give up pressure to the lines swelling/ballooning a bit and need changed out every 5-6 years.
Going to Teflon braided stainless lines will eliminate any ballooning and give you a much more direct feel for the braking modulation. If you want stock rubber line look it is available

Wtf, dead at a red light this time. When the key starts getting difficult sliding in ans out of the ignition is that a give away is about to fail? I left her bike at a gas station and waking back home, I installed new rubber grommets for the side covers ans it was impossible to pull off ans check the fuses. I was afraid to break the tabs off my side covers .

fuse was blown and i replaced it. The running lights come on just with the ignition turned on and the light switch off, then when i got home the headlight stayed on when i turned them off. But I got the bike home. Im going to re wire all of my electrical this winter too, maybe an M unit. All of the signals and running lights are LEDs and didnt get much thought during the build, just bare minimum to get them on and working, it looks ugly, and gives me days like these....8 miles total walked, entire day lost, this guy didnt have fuses on his bike...smh. How did i make it through the summer with barely any issues?

I forgot i had an earlier harness so i have a round plug, i spliced a different end on an old switch but my lights are acting weird as #$%* now. Waiting for new switch to come in and i ordered one with a new steering stem lock matching key.
