Flying Dragon Paint Scheme
« on: July 08, 2018, 12:27:52 PM »
I just got back from Mid-Ohio and while I was wondering around the swap meet, I found two sets of the rare Honda paint schemes known as the flying dragon. Both of these sets fit a CL350 and they were BRAND NEW in the Honda boxes in the Honda paper never opened until we opened them!!! One set was blue and the other set was a gold color. I swallowed hard on the price, but bought the blue set, after thinking about it, I went back to buy the other set and there was a guy buying it as I approached. Note to self, go with your gut feeling when you run into something incredible!!

I didn't see those but it wasnt on my radar either. Glad to hear there were goodies for others as well. I picked up an original glass Rickman CR tank in NOS condition as well as a Rickman half fairing meant for a stock frame bike, but should work on my Rickman project as well. Felt I did pretty well on both.

I was hoping for a decent Lester or other alloy rear wheel for my 750F. The closest I got was a '75 750F with Lesters already on it. The same seller had an ultra rare 18" rear Lester  for the GL1000 new in box. He was asking $350 for that, which I thought was reasonable.

See the supposed RC engine he had there? He was asking $1750 which seemed like a ton of coin with no paperwork.

No, I missed that.

He had a freshly painted F tank he offered me for $300, which I thought was reasonable given the prices I have seen tanks go for recently on Ebay. But I already had a line on the one I ended up buying, which isn't a nice, but I want to repaint anyway and paid a bit less than half as much.

Yes, the side covers were still in the OEM paper. The gas tank had the gas cap and Honda emblems already installed from the factory.

By any chance, did you take any close up pics when you opened up the box?  Would love to see that paint scheme.

Cheers, Robbo

When the "Flying Dragon" paint accessories were new I was a Honda dealer. We couldn't give them away. I wound up throwing the kits in with the purchase price on new 350's. I guess I should have hung on to them for forty years.

My experience also - nobody wanted them..........

They are very distinctive looking. I can understand why they didn't sell very well, it would appeal to a very limited number of buyers.

These are really cool. I assume they painted them in the tub like you see in videos today? Or is that a new technique? I joined that facebook page.
