This is for Andy750's bike. The cylinder went on in 5 minutes....I'm sure they put 4 or 5 on in that at the factory.

Wooohooo!! Nice surprise! Looking good Mike!!

I love the pics - crystal clear, just like the head....nice job. The Chimay is on me this time for sure!

For those who dont know...Mike is redoing the top end of my CB750K4 - stock bike (more or less) thats been 40,000 miles in the last 5 years (crossed America a couple of times, been around Europe and the Alps and even made it to Scotland and back). Some may recall I tried doing the head myself last year and almost succeeded (except for a few mistakes here and there

)......anyway I am super happy with Mikes work and hes done a great job so far (I saw the engine at the half-way stage) -just amazing. If anyone is even considering asking Mike to do some work I can highly recommend him! Second to none in my opinion. Thanks Mike!

Dig the blocks to keep the pistons from rocking while installing the cylinder

Is that Gaskacinch or some other tacky gasket stuff around the base gasket oil drains? I'm takin' notes

Thanks Sean. Those adjustable blocjs are Suzuki pieces though others make them. You get the upper case surface pretty level, put those under the pistons and turn the crank until the pistons are pretty much centered in the bore. The cylinder slips over the pistons so easily once the pistons are stablized it's hard to believe. I just work the cylinder down to 1&4 and basically rock them in their bores. The sealent is a real thin layer of Hylomar. And yes...I know the cam chain blade is missing. I found a new one on ebay for 15.00, it arrived today and it is in place.

I knocked the valve guides out last night Jerry. The parts should be in early next week and then it's off the machinists for the combustion chamber mod, valve job etc. I'll post some pics when it's done.

Nothing too serious....cylinders honed (better than the first time they got done), new pistons, rings, cometic headgasket, new valves, guides and Mike has generously done some mild porting for me as well so Im excited! When Mike opended up the engine the pistons were scored (oil on sides), valve guides wasted, some valves were worn etc etc....so generally an all round clean up and with Mikes excellent attention to detail I have complete confidence its going to be good!

I replaced Andy's head with one I had. His was in rough shape and the pistons shot. They had those 1 piece oil rings.

Actually most of the parts were low mileage( rings and seals are new) used but it got a fresh valve job and surfacing. It should run pretty good.

Jerry's head will be going on a 1080CC kit. The chambers have to be opened up using a squish cutter to accomodate the large pistons.. It does produce a more hemi chamber.

Yes, I took a piece of 1x pine and cut out a "fork" that runs under the piston.

what does that chamber measure across? I have one in my pile that measures 70mm, it's chambers are smooth like that one also, and it has been ported big time! Anyone need it?

Tapered/blended squish. http://www.muller.net/mullermachine/docs/squish1.html There are other, and better writ ups. There was a very good one from a performance place in Australia I read a while back. i wish I could remember it.

If I remember correctly they are about 66 mm across Jesse. That 70 must have been for a 1080.

My open tube of Yamabond4 is just over a year old so I'm going to buy some more sealant to button up my motor. The write up on Hylomar looks pretty good so I'll give it a shot. Looking online I find a "universal blue" and a "racing blue" formula, along with a bunch of other Hylomar products. Which formula do ya recommend, Mike?
