Correct Oil Filter
« on: May 05, 2019, 02:12:58 PM »
Hey all.

Looking for the correct oil filter for my 75 cb400f. I was given a new filter with the part number 15410-426-010 but diagram I've got lists part number 15412-300-024.

Will either work?

thanks

Not sure about the part number, but the same filter fits our 400f, 550K, all the SOHC 750s and my 1975 GL1000! It probably fits a lot of others too.......

I think you will find that that part number is the 650 four which is the same and one of the last sohc fours

Here is an interesting and educational read on Honda part numbers. The 300 in the middle is associated with 1970 and 1971 CB750's but with the oil filters many models/sizes use the same one.  https://www.weeksmotorcycle.com/honda-part-number.html

When in a dealership there were only 2 paper Honda filters.
As the bikes developed Honda upgraded the filter specs and made it bacward compatible so the CBX 1000 and Wing filter fits the 750, 500 etc.
The other filter is smaller and fits the 400 twin, 550 twin cam and others. HI Flo numbers are 401 and 111 i think

Good article on part numbers. Interesting to know what each number grouping represents-it makes those part#'s look less like a just a long string of random numbers!
