Is paint worth it?
« on: May 02, 2019, 04:19:26 PM »
I thinking about repainting my K6, because the paint's not in great condition. I want to match the original Candy Antares Red, but I really like that Flake Apricot Red from the K5.
From a buyers standpoint, would you rather the paint be original, or beautiful(if so, Flake Apricot, or Candy Antares)?

i like original....but that's only important for some. there's probably as many that think the other way.
usually, original paint or repaint original brings more money for resale.

All depends upon the condition of the bike overall. Is it in survivor condition? Is it restored otherwise and the paint is below the standard of the rest of the bike? If not, do you intend to take it there?

Another option is to purchase a set from Yamiya and keep the originals original, and use the new Apricot for your appreciation. Best of both worlds. And the cost to buy the set is likely not that much more than a professional multi-stage repaint.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Lewis

Thanks! I've definitely got to contemplate this, $1200 seems a bit steep right now, my local shop quoted me ~$500 for paint. After a few days of looking, the estimate seems too low now. And I'm questioning what they think is necessary.

I'll definitely post over in projects after I decide.

I think it depends on the overall quality, I think 500-600 is good if you know the painter is legit, here are two that were finished last week. The shades of red should be on the opposite tank..so the red on the gold stripe tank should be the red on the k6 tank with the black decal, but both look great, the k6 is stock and the frankenstein is and 836.
