Ultrasonic cleaning solution recommendations
« on: May 02, 2019, 09:08:22 AM »
I picked up a decent sized ultrasonic cleaner to clean up a ton of different bits on my 650. Pretty much everything I need to clean is aluminum. Carbs, jugs, oil pan, etc etc etc.

I'm looking for a cleaner that's safe for aluminum without the worry of discoloration. People say simple green is great but you can't leave things in too long. I'm just looking for something I don't have to watch like a hawk incase I leave something in for too long.
Every search I've done has brought up 37 different chemical recommendations and I'm looking for a recommendation on some products people have used.

I just got done cleaning EVERY part off of my 400 in an ultrasonic cleaner I got on amazon. I used simple green HD (purple). Totally safe for aluminum. No time limit. I used about 20% simple green 80% water, just to save money ;)  And you only run the cleaner for about 10 minutes at a time. Anything longer than that would be pointless. If the item is that dirty you'll need to change the water anyways.

i have a commercial cleaner at work, we use distilled water. I still blow out to the carbs with carb cleaner to make sure everything is clear,

I've had success using dishwasher LIQUID in my ultrasonic cleaner.

Okay this thing is great. Makes a crap load of annoying buzzing noises but I was able to clean #$%* with zero effort while sitting around watching Netflix.
I used the simple green HD and just splashed a bit in the tank and cleaned the oil pan and chain side cover and a bit of the jugs. No prep to any of them, and dirty water because I just wanted to check it out. Ill do some real cleaning another day but I'm happy with the results. May experiment with some other stuff but for now I like it
