Vented rotors - just a revamp
« on: January 26, 2007, 03:12:01 PM »
I do not have to tell you how to get ahold of me. We just bought a new drill press. Teals rotor killed off the last drill press.  :D Anyway there were guys who where contacting me about cross drilling rotors. I can not find them without digging through about 1,000 emails so he is the offer. Send me an IM and we can make thing happen.

With the new equipment I can do them and have a two day turn around in shop.

Bump and because I have had alot of questions:

1 rotor $35
2nd rotor same size $25
3 rd rotor same size $20

Basically, if I can lay out the first one and transfer the pattern to the second one the price goes down.

No more plugging of my biz.

Thomas,

In a month or two count me in! For three rotors! Question, your pattern or could I supply a pattern and I understand that the price would have to be reviewed again?

What does "cross drilling" mean?

Cross drilling is venting the rotor in a pattern that allows the hot gases to escape from between the rotor surface and the brake pad alleviating brake fade due to heat and allowing the pad a more positive engagement to the rotor.

Super heated gases can actually lift the pad away from the rotor during hard braking. Some of this is the fade we experience with O.E. rotors.

Hope that helps...

We can use a pattern you have as long as it is not over drilled. Brake pads work better on a flat surface rather than holes.  ;D I will do your pattern at the same prices as the other ones. Set up is set up no matter the pattern. The second and third rotors can be cheaper as there is only one set up and can be transfered to the others as long as they are about the same outer diameter.

Sorry I killed your press Tom  ;D

I think it was dead when I got it.  ;)
It is older than you and I put together  ;D

The new press is better but it has some table deflection I will have to figure a way around. Maybe it is just in my head  ::)

Attach a micrometer to an external hard point and see if the deflection is real... You can check for tilt this way also.

Sorry, just my engineer side working out your described problem...  :D

I don't know Tom, I drilled my rotors out a few months ago. It took a lot of time standing at the press pulling on the handle!! I think you should charge more than $80 for them, they look great!! I've been trying to get ahold of you about the gauge face's, but haven't heard back. I know your busy and I'm bugging the crap out of you, but whats up?

The thing about common sense is that, it's not that common.

Hockers, my vinyl guy is in the middle of the process of moving his shop so everything is on the big time delay. He assures me he will have the gauge faces done in the next 3 days.

Can you believe I am getting near 1/4 deflection at worst, usually it is 1/8. This will be fixed because I resurected the old press. I figure I would punch the small holes and then move to the big press and open up the larger holes like I did on the other ones. When opening the holes up there is not deflection.

Now I am looking for a better table. The big deal is the old press runs at 300RPM min and the new one run at 90RPM min. Just the right deal for the bigger bits.  ;D

The right speed will make the difference. Good luck fixing your deflection problem which sounds like you do have a problem. Talk to you in a couple weeks...

El Cheapo,

I'm in for 2, maybe 3 rotors.  Question,  one (possibly both) of my rotors needs resurfacing; should I have that done prior to getting them drilled?  Are you able to resurface them with the understanding that I'd compensate for your time/labor, etc?  What's your mailing address so I can ship them to you?  Does paypal, money order work?

Thanks!

For ref this is how you get it all done.

http://www.anubiscycle.com/services.htm

Just send me emails so we can get started. I have resurected the old press and it works awsome now and use the bigger press. for the 7/16 holes. If it is a 5/16 pattern only then it stays on the old press.

Thanks for the plug Teal.

I try hard. No it is not a CNC job, but it is very functional.  8)
