Guys, talk with Ricky Racer and HevyKevy420 - they both have the kits. Both have been very complementary. I have 4 more sets on the way and 1 ready to mail now.

Looks good Gordon, what's in the kit, and how many $$$? I've lightened your pic a bit just in case people didn't understand what it's about. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Guys, you'll need to PM me. I'm not getting into the selling business. So far they've cost me more than I'm asking, but I"m glad for Charles as he's making some money and that was the idea.

The price has not and will not go up unless 50 people start wanting them, then I'd have to file bankruptcy  :)

If you are sincerely interested, send me a pm and I'll give you the scoop.

Gordon

Guys- I can vouch for the quality of this kit as well as the installation instructions, all the pieces used are precision machined top notch and only the best and strongest materials and grades are used for the steel and the hardware.  I've already cut the frame rails so I could rebuild my top end without hucking the bottom end out of the frame (this after rebuilding only 1k miles ago).  I was ready to get rid of this bike rather than do the labor again until Gordon stepped in to intervene with this kit.  It will allow you complete access to the top end without pulling the entire engine, and judging from the quality of the kit, I do not see how there could be much, if any, additional frame "flex" after the kit is installed, plus you can remove it at any time easily to access the top end.  I don't race on this bike, Gordon, who is heavier than me (no insult intended Gordon) has already installed this gorgeous kit on his bike and reported no flex, so I"m not concerned about that, but I AM looking forward to the drastically improved serviceability of the bike due to the kit.  Plus, it is virtually unnoticeable tucked away under the tank, if painted properly like Gordons (Ilbikes).

I'm currently wrapping up the rebuild hopefully next week, then I'll have the kit welded in/completed and I'll post pics of the results.

I agree entirely, I received my kit this week from Gordon (thanks mate!)and next weekend (unless my K0 arrives this week, ha ha!)I'll be doing the installation on my "Racer Project" frame, as it's most likely to need top end work on a more regular basis than the others, as I change head/cam/carb combinations.

As previously mentioned, the kit is a very high quality conversion, and as I've been more vocal than many here about some of the dangerous frame mods that I've seen well meaning sohc-ers here do from their own lack of engineering knowledge, people will know that I only give praise when it's well deserved, and in this case at least, it certainly is. Well done Gordon! Cheers, Terry. :)

leaks .
Usually from hard O rings in the 8 inspection ports for valve adjustment I also had a tacho seal go hard as a bulls forehead. It leaked like hell and made the engine look like #$%*.That took some getting out whilst the engine was still installed. I should have replaced all the O rings whilst the engine was on the bench. My fault that I could not get a tacho seal on time.??

PS No leaks now.

I agree with both Terry and hevykevy420.  The quality of the engineering and machining in this kit is impressive.  In fact, I've just bought a second set for another bike.  Big time thanks to Gordon (ILBikes) for taking the time and energy to offer this package to the group!  Although he has been supplying the kit at a financial loss, I would encourage Gordon to continue to supply this product at a price that would make it worth his while.  Thanks again, Gordon!  RR

What engine?  A 550 can stay in the frame if it's just a top end rebuild.

i have my 750 i'm rebuliding and was wondering...

if you hade the lower end assembled and bolted in, could you install the cylinders-up while half the engine is in the frame? i was just wondering because my 77 kawa 400 could have the lower half of the engine in the frame and i could put it back together just as long the engine studs were installed last.

i didn't think to look before i removed the 750 engine but if someone could take a look and let me know, this would give me an advantage once i go to reinstall the block (plus it will weigh less and i won't sctach the frames paint job  ;D)

thanks,
ray

Ray, we've got bad news for you -- you can't even remove/replace the valve cover with that engine in the frame - so no-go on the removal/replacement of the cam, the head, or the cylinders. The Honda was designed to be trouble-free, but it's engine completely removed for anything more than adjustments. We've all tried and it just won't work. The engine is best installed/removed by placing the bike on it's right side with all of the right-side brackets removed. Leave two of the long bolts in at the bottom for this lay-down. Once the engine is supported on it's right side, have two helpers - 1 to hold the engine and one to help you carefully manuver the frame off of the engine - there is 1/4" of clearance, so go slow. The book says it can be taken out by lifting the engine and manuvering it out the right side. Based on my experience a few months ago and having 3 people on-hand to hold the frame - you could not do it with causing scratches to the frame. This may be ok for repair work, but is unaceptable to many restorers and those having just poured a hundred hours into a rebuild and new frame coating. The "engine over frame" is the safest way.

Gordon

No, the sohc 750 must be installed whole.....unless you cut the frame as this thread is about....

This is all very interesting stuff. Makes me glad that I own a 650.... no problems (so far) with top end maintenance chores. But she is weeping oil in a like manner to all those 750's. I like Raul's wad-of-tissue-between-the-fins idea.

Terry: I thought Blind Faith was one of the first 'super groups' of the late '60s (E.Clapton, G.Baker, R.Grech and S.Winwood)?

Ha ha, very true Nick, Eric C really is a living legend, eh? Just quietly though, I wouldn't trade any of my 750's (with all their faults) for any  of their lesser siblings..............  ;D

I think you're on the wrong topic. This is "Weeping between the Fins" and not "Weeping between the Sheets" or "Weeping between the Sheep".  :D  ;D  :o  Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Doing well for an old fart. Not much progress on Monster Motor but it's positive. Mike just about has the head done. Pistons are being recut for 3 piece oil rings. Big Jay has the crank for lightening & balancing and will install a set of Carillos. Have to get the top case opened a bit. Slow but sure. Kinda like me.

I'm guessing it's a 750 and I'm thinking that it's just the pucks under the cam towers, the O rings won't make it leak between the fins, only along the head gasket joint. Don't crack the head gasket mate, just replace the pucks and you won't get any more hot oil spraying on yer left leg. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I agree.  And while you are in there, retorque the head.

... Anyone know what the torque setting is for the cylinder head bolts and/or cylinder head pan screws for my 73 CB750K3 would be?
