I've only seen one set of crash bars that I'd ever consider.  they were a two piece bar and alot smaller and more inboard than the huge ones that are usually available.   I'll try and find where I saw them.

Engine bars like the ones you can just see on my avatar (in front of right foot!) come up on eBay every now and then.

They were fairly unobtrusive and I tested them way back...  (they worked just fine)

This was the last pair I saw.  Not quite the same as they have that wrap-around bit.

Need some work though (chrome for a start!)

I have a set on my K7. The bloke I bought them from has heaps, only trouble is, we're in Australia. Email me & I'll send you his contact details as I know he imports from overseas.

I like the ones that hug the case. Not big on the big ones.

Well I suppose depending on what you like, there are some made by MC that you can get from jcwhitney. You can get a 2 peice that is not too large.

I have several sets similar to the one pictured, and two other styles two, including the big one that mounts to the front of the frame on cb550F.

The smaller ones had two problems; 1-they interfered with the stock 4 into 4s I have on the 74 CB550, 2- they get under the toe of my size 10 1/2 boot on the F models they did fit onto.  This can interfere with braking and shifting until you reposition your foot.  This can be a safety issue.

The big loopy bars on one of my F models, also won't work on the 74.  But, that's because it's my winter bike with a full vetter fairing and lowers; interference.  Anyway, they had highway footpegs on them when I got it.  On a hot day cruise you could put your feet way out front and the wind would blow right up your pants leg.  Refreshing...  Would have been more comforable with pull backs, though.

Check out the original "Ben Hur". I bet you fab extra long axles and put spearheads on the ends. Come to think of it, if they were long enough you wouldn't have to worry about low-siding.
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

I too have a set of the close fitting crank case protection bars on my K2. Bought it like that. No problems with brakes or gear changes with my size 11EE boots. The bars make great 'highway pegs' on a long trip. Gives me a third foot position to get rid of the pain in the arse normally associated with hours in the saddle. The backs of my boot heels rest on the crank case, the heels of the boots rest on the bars and the sides of my boots are against the pots. Great in winter. Have attached a couple of pix showing the bars. Cheers from Oz.

Yep Hymo - they're the ones!

I'm staggered that you can still buy them after all these years (I wonder how many they sell)

Anyone know of a source in UK?

The Whitney ones look to be the one on my CB550F (who knew).  These are the ones my 10 1/2 boot hang up on.

Bought a set of these for my 1978 CB550 last year...quality is good, Johnny's Vintage Motorcycle. From his website, http://www.johnnysvintagemotorcycle.com/other_japanese_parts.asp, they are $65 US.....found him on EBAY too, bought them for $34 US.  I think you will like these.
