Help: Regulator / Rectifier Options
« on: May 20, 2019, 11:13:54 AM »
Im trying to finish up a custom CB750 Chopper build and want to get rid of the cumbersome stock CB regulator and rectifier and replace them with something more available such as automotive ones that cross over? I used a ford bronco regulator on my cb350 and xs400 but kept the stock rectifier. Now Im wanting to find a automotive or universal rectifier I can install.

Question #2 Ive got a couple cb360 S4B-01 Reg/Recs in the garage and I was wondering would they maybe work on the cb750?

If I am being dumb by doing it this way please tell me.

and Thanks for the help, I was recommended to this site from a few people!

360 generators work differently and have less power  you can fit a combined reg/rec like on dohc but get thw wiring right 1st time or you let the smoke out and it never works again!!

I used a Rick's combined unit on my CB550. It is truly plug and play. I installed it in the driveway before a 4700 mile road trip in 20 minutes.

+ 1 on the Rick's unit. A friend bought one of the Chinese $29 units on E-bay. It was toast in 20 minutes. Very easy to fabricate a little bracket to fit where the old re/reg fastened to the battery box

Also Rick's combined unit, from here:

I recall bending a piece of metal in order to mount it, otherwise I would have needed to fabricate something. Hides nicely behind the side cover as it should. Installed it before a very long road trip and just haven't had to wonder/think about that part of the charging system since.

+1 on Rick's combo solid state unit.  This fixed my charging issues and is plug & play.  You will need to fab mounting bracket.

I used a fancy high tech invention called a "zip tie" to mount mine.
