Bugs
« on: May 26, 2019, 07:13:09 PM »
Dang I got chewed up and seriously annoyed by mosquitos and gnats today. The last thing I did was fire up a gl1000 that has sat for a couple years. It laid up a sweet smoke screen so I locked up and left the bugs to be smoked.  The last couple years my first few bites of the season leave big welts. I'm thinking Benadryl for me.

I was cleaning the gutters, it won't stop raining here and last summer was dry. That's kicking the trees into the making more seeds mode. I now have welts on my face. Holy wow.
Tornado warnings this afternoon. They were back into the rotating cloud when it went over.

We moved our annual car show from a lake area to a parking lot. The ground was too soft to drive on and the bugs are especially prevalent near the lake. They even bothered people in the middle of 6 acres of blacktop. After 11 am or so the bugs seemed to go away. It got windy, maybe that had something to do with it.
Our friends brought a 44' self contained car trailer so we could use it for registration. They unfolded the canopies for the first time and the wind folded both of them over the roof. Aside from that is was an awesome car show.

There's a story of at least one person getting a positive lyme disease test after a buffalo gnat bite. They go after your breath, eyes nose, ears. They are killing chickens and llamas by suffocation. yuck.

It dried out enough to stop the Buffalo gnats. They were the worst.

We got some rain and the bugs are back with a vengence. I had to close up the garage and work with fans blowing on me.

Don't, sounds like you are getting an allergic like reaction to the mosquito bites. Might need to mention it to your doctor.
Lemon Thyme crushed and mixed into a formula for natural mosquito repellant work very well. As long as it does not cause you to have a reaction to its ingredients. I will have to dig it up for you...

It's not just me, all of the water from the non stop rain has produced a local bumper crop of skeeters and buffalo gnats. My wife tried to hang out in the driveway but couldn't.  I have cleaned the gutters and it's a pretty clean neighborhood. No old tires or bird baths. The local stores have sold out of bug repellent.
