Adjust Valves with Electronic Ignition Installed?
« on: May 29, 2019, 06:32:04 AM »
I'm not able to see the timing marks because the electronic ignition plate covers them. Is my only option to remove the electronic ignition to do this job?

Thanks!

Pic of electronic ignition?  I'd be surprised if a company made one to fit a bike and didn't leave a sight hole for that.

spark plugs out tappet covers off... start with #1 turn engine over by hand with kickstart ..watch valves open  and close.. bring it up on compression and use thin screwdriver down spark plug hole to TDC ...adjust both valves... then do 2 3 4.. that's how i did mine....

I'm fairly certain it's the Dynatek Dyna S ignition. I don't recall seeing a viewing port, but it was dark and I was in a hurry. I'm back up at the house where the bike is this weekend and will take a look with a flashlight.

Thanks!

The Dyna S for the SOHC Hondas (2 and 4) absolutely has the timing mark port. If your version doesn't then I would wonder if it was intended for a different model bike. The GL1000 model doesn't have a port because the points attach to the left side camshaft and the TDC mark is found behind a port at the back left side of the engine near the kick starter port.

I have the Dyna S on my CB500K2 and the system has an admittedly smallish hole to view the marks.  You just have to get down on the level.  You can do it without the hole^^ but it's just much easier knowing you're right on =)

My C5 doesn’t have timing marks. I do what sparky said and marked my rotor for the future.
