CB750K5 harness woes
« on: June 01, 2019, 01:04:06 PM »
Hey all,
I recently acquired this old girl and the PO had taken most of it apart as part of a resto project, but lost interest. I have the factory harness, but replacement left and right hand controls (vintage 750.com) I have most of it together, but not having much luck getting lights to work. The taillight comes on in pos 2, and I get oil pressure and neutral lights in pos 1 (run), but no headlight or tail or turn or horn. Starter button turns over engine though. My question is, if the ignition switch is turned to pos 1, what fuses should be hot? This will give me a starting point.
Currently, I'm just getting voltage on the main.
Fuses are good, fuse holder looks good (no power on the backside of it either), new batt,

Thanks in advance

Kevin

Just been through this with another member on here but also just binned the mails!! You need to connect one wire from the lights on/off switch on the rh side to a black in the headlamp shell, the other side of the switch goes to one side of the headlamp fuse(connector in shell) whilst the other side goes to the feed into the dip switch on lh side(also in shell) problem is none of these wires are colour coded correctly so you need a multimeter to sort it out!!!

BryanJ is on the right track: most of the K5/6 bikes I have "fixed" with this issue need a jumper to the Brown/White wire (some harnesses have it as a Brown/Red) to the fuseblock. The top fuse on the K5/6 fuseblock is for the headlight, the middle one for the running lights. Look at the wire colors on the fuseblock to help you figure out which is which.

Thanks for everyones reply. Very helpful. I dont see a fuse or dip switches in the headlight shell, but I found this which I dont see on the factory schematic:
Could this be the jumper? Its connecting Br/W to Br/Red

;)fuse box is behind a side panel and main/dip switch is on LH handlebar.
Yes that could be the jumper cable

Yep, that's just how Honda's techs "patched" these bikes in those days.
