1972 Honda CB 750 ignition switch replacement
« on: June 03, 2019, 12:07:17 PM »
Im traveling and I dont have the manual handy. The Mrs told me the replacement switch for the Cb750 arrived in the mail today. Its the ROUND plug housing type.

Whats involved in swapping out the old for the new? Sorry if this is a dumb question but like I said, im traveling and dont have the manual handy.

Thanks!

If it's in the original location and the wires haven't been extended it's as simple as remove the gas tank, unplug the switch, swap them and reassemble in reverse. When you plug in the switch be sure to use some di-electric grease and pull the cover back so you can see if the male terminals push back out of the plug. I recently had that happen on an aftermarket wiring harness/switch.

Loosen the ring collar, then switch will fall out. Then unplug and install new one.
 10  minutes with tank off.
If you have a Aluminun drift or small harm you can knock ring loose with that.

Thanks for this. The bike is all original. All wire lengths, etc are OEM. Will do this later on today when I get back home from this trip.

Timed myself swapping the ignition switch with the tank off. Took 7 minutes.

I cant stop laughing though. A local mechanic here in NYC wanted $200 (!!!!!) to change the ignition switch. Said "there could be rust or something else unforeseen that could pop up.  Yeah, so I changed it myself in 7 minutes and paid myself $200.
