Does the tabbed hinge go in the front or back position? The parts diagram is no help and I can't find a photo of one or the other... parts 77201-300-010 & 77201-341-000.

77201-341-000 is front hinge starting with K2 (not used K0, K1)

Practicing my thread necromancy here.

I went all the way with a seat restoration recently, including sandblasting the pan, repainting, reupholstering, and getting new trim from David Silver Spares. Quite proud of my work! I didn't realize the hinges were different and just pulled them off for sandblasting/repainting. When I put it on I had the tabbed (shorter) hinge in the front as described here. I was anxious to ride and didn't wait for the trim to arrive, and it worked fine. After I added the trim and tried to put the seat back on, I couldn't fully open it it. It rubbed some finish off my nice new DSS trim 😭

Looking at this other thread, it seems the taller one is in front.

I swapped them at it fits better, but the trim rubs against the oil tank cap. I'm sure the trim is firmly pressed in face.

Which way is correct? Or am I cursed?

One other possibility is that my tabbed hinge is bent. I can't find clear pictures of OEM ones, but these repros have the hinge right on the tab.

My original one has the hinge part bent away from the tab somewhat. Could that be the issue?

I'll have to look at my K5 and the K4 that just came in Saturday.

Scan back up a few posts in this thread and 69cb750 posts an image of the hinges and yours would be bent accordingly to that image.

It was in fact that my hinge was bent. I didn't really think about it because... how? When? When did it get bent? It's all good now though.

And yes @newday777, I did have to use several ancient and dark magicks. There was a cost to my soul, but I got the answer I needed.
