    * Location: Troutdale

Thought we would be the first ones there... we were wrong, we were second. We got there at 6:30 AM  with a fist ful of cash after an hour of loading the pickup and driving to Troutdale OR. The guy before us got there at 5... he drove an hour or so to get there.

Around 7 at least 6 other trucks and cars showed up and congested this little suburban dead end road... Maybe another poster was there? We waited at least an hour and still no signs of life. Finally an old man came out of his house (looking frightened to death) and acted dumbfounded, Seemed as though he had barely ever seen a motorcycle let alone selling a bunch. He probably never has used the internet, and of course had no idea what "craigslist" was.

SO everyone left... except for us, (and some poor sap with a harley sticker on his truck). We waited... and waited. Drove around looking around the neighborhoods... thinking it must have been a  direction mistake.  Went and ate horrible breakfast. And then drove back again... and there it was...

NOTHING!!!

Should of known it was too good to be true, but the ad seemed sooo specific that it just did not make sense to be a hoax.

We drove home with tails betweem legs giving up finally at 9:30 AM... wondering WTF just happened. Slept an hour, went to work.

... the things we do for these machines.

Just realized I was in the tech forum (as usual) and realized this is not really a "tech" post.

Sorry about that.

I'm so sorry for you, but believe, I HAVE LAUGHED AS LOUD AS i COULDN'T REMEMBER!

They say you only laugh with jokes when you understand them, and you understand them when you have gone through the same. I haven't, but I would have gone the same. Probably the guy who posted the fake ad was the last to arrive just to have a look at which kind of people would have lost sleep to buy some motorcycle parts.

How do you americans say? It's better to regret having been wrong than not having tried or something like that...

there's no way that ad was a prank---okay, the list of stuff definitely looks too good to be true, but it's just way too detailed and wierd to be a prank. one of the other guys that showed up who had bought a cb350T parts bike from me a couple months back, told me that he had heard of a similar sale recently of old british racers, where this local rich guy showed up with 100K in cash. i'm thinking someone like this wrote the guy and bought the lot before he even unloaded it from his "storage locker." one of those houses we were waiting in front of had to be his buddies house. oh well, who needs sleeping in on saturday?

Billdramp and Paulages,
I saw an ad similar for an old 500 four, all these parts, sets of bodywork, 3 motors, all these period correct cafe pieces, Boranni Wheels..all in a craigslist ad for $1! man was i skeptical..i e-mailed the guy like a million others i'm thinking..finally got a reply, i said i WAS INTERESTED and SERIOUS(capitol letter emphasis!!) and lo and behold..it was a true ad, and he lived 3 miles from my Dads house an hour away from me, he was a machinist who rode cafe in the day and when the #2 cylinder oil ring broke, he parked it, original owner, non-op current since parked(1985) and had registration AND pink slip with all mentioned above..my buddy and i almost got a ticket for driving so fast to get there! Yep! i am sorry you got the goose chase..some people suck
Thanks for listening

so, dwyj?  you got it all for a dollar?

most of the time people put the 1$ thing in the heading to get people to look and also for the search engine.  say, if you want to only see the listing from 0-1000 dollars... it would show up in your search even if they were really asking 20,000 dollars.

buildramp and paulages... sorry about the suckyness that was your saturday.

We showed up at noon and some old hippy was there all hung over. He asked if we were there for the bike stuff, I said yes. He said no one else showed and if we wanted it all for $1000 it was ours!! We loaded a 20 foot trailer FULL!!! and got the hell out of there!!!!
The thing about common sense is that, it's not that common.
