Need help with a strange leak?
« on: June 24, 2019, 07:51:50 PM »
Hey guys, new to the forum and new owner of an old CB750. Found this leak today after riding, and can’t really find a source or know where it’d be leaking from. Anybody here ever have the same thing or have any ideas of how to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

That aluminum cap with the hex head plugs off the high pressure oil gallery. It may be loose, or the o-ring may be damaged. Should be an easy fix.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

I’ll tighten it down in the morning and see if that solves the issue. Thanks again!

It almost looks like there is silver silicone sealant used.  Can't really tell but at the top of the oil galley plug it looks like there might be sealant there.  It is a REAL bad spot to use any sealant!  It feeds the top end and has to pass through the oil restrictors in the head.  Your best bet is to carefully remove the oil plug, clean out any debris/sealant from the galley and plug and get a new O ring.  Make sure the seating surface is flat and smooth.

I would be very careful when trying to tighten it down. Those aluminum caps are hollow and can easily snap off leaving the threads inside.

If I were you, I’d just get a new o-ring for it and not try to tighten it. Hope we don’t see a post from you over the weekend asking where to get another aluminum cap and o-ring and how to remove the broken off threads.

Use a six sided socket on that, the material is soft.
