Honda CB400F Oil Pickup Spring
« on: June 25, 2019, 12:10:24 PM »
In the picture there is a spring(#7) that goes around the top of the oil pickup.  Mine did not have this and I know it was taken apart before by someone else.  I can't seem to fathom what this spring does or even where it goes.  The top of the oil pickup slips into the lower case with no space at all.  What's the story here.  Bike is a very early 1975.

UPDATE: Problem solved.  Spring was in a box of parts that came with the bike. I see where it goes, but still don't understand it's purpose.

The theory is it pushes the pickup to the lowest possible level in case level gets low and also stops it rattling
