not"The worlds Fastest Indian" but....
« on: January 21, 2007, 11:17:55 AM »
In the late 60's I rode this bike at 90 m.p.h. down the Coast Highway out of Oxnard, Cal. past Point Magu A.F.B on that great straightaway. Anybody know what I'm talking about?

Hey there, good to see another old Indian. 8) Like to see some pictures and details on it. It looks like there's been some changing going on with that one. My family had an Indian dealership in Little Rock, Arkansas back when. You also have Uncle Ernie residing here and he's got on old one also. Then there's Terry o Australia, whose cousin has an old one over there.

Erm, shouldn't you be only wearing a speedo and swimming cap? And shouldn't that be a Vincent under you?

Just kidding around. Nice bike! Nice suit!

Nice picture of the Indian, a YOUNG man and tough old Ford (right?) Sam "Skinny" Pierce used
to have the largest inventory of Indian stuff around. He tried to bring it back a few times his self.
Wonder what ever happened to all that he had? Seems to be quite a lot of the old Indians turning
up, not to mention the reproduction stuff.

Bill,

Went down to Pierce Indian in San Gabriel, Cal. right after I bought the bike.
Got a repair manual and some decals.
They said if I gave them my engine and $350 they'd give me a brand new motor!

The car is a Ford-'30 Model A-running dual downdraught Stromberg 97's.
Still have the Ford and the carbs.

   Phil,
Well, were you able to go for the new motor. You kinda got me in suspence here. ;D

I was thinking maybe 28-29, or so on the Ford. That sucker should be pretty rare as a package deal with the old flathead and the Strombergs. Is it running 2 or 3 carbs? Anything else in, or on, that
motor that you haven't told? Seems like you've got several conversation pieces there. About the main OLD conversation piece I've got is an Indian Crankshaft Truing stand.

Bill,

I didn't take Pierce up on the deal.
I was getting ready to ship out to 'Nam in a few weeks
and I felt like I better get the bike back home to Illinois
as soon as I could.

Currently, the model A is in stock configuration.
The dual downdraught setup is hanging on the wall and looks good up there along with
the 4 carbs from the 750F (I put on a Cycle-X dual carb setup).....I know.

Did your families Indian dealership become a Honda dealership in later years?--You have a lot of Hondas!

what did you mean by that?  do you  not think the cycle x dual carb is a good option?

    Hey Phil,
The Indian dealership added some British Blood in the way of AJS, Norton, Matchless, and Royal Enfield. That deal turned into BSA, Jawa/CZ/ESO and Parilla. The "Shop" (as we called it) faded away when mt Grandfather died in Dec 68'. My Dad got a Civil Service job, just before that happened, because my grandfather would not advertise and he always argued with my Dad about things like putting in a phone. My Grandfather felt like "If You Do Good Work, People Will Come To You" and they did somewhat (from the 40's until 68'). The Japanese bikes started arriving in the Little Rock area along about 62' or so and They were the hot item. The H-D dealer added the Honda franchise and wasn't long before Richards' Harley Davidson/ Honda became Richards' Honda and now they also sell Honda cars. They sell Honda everything and the last time I checked (last year), they were still in business. When my Grandfather died, I was in the USAF (in Japan) and came home on emergency leave. Got my first Honda over there. Never have had an Indian of my own though. Can't afford one now. My posts can become quite long, on this subject, as you might have noticed. ::)

Re :  Cycle-X option
Great thing for me, but I took a little heat the first time I mentioned it on the Forum.
No more carb issues and the old carbs look great on the garage wall.
