Jordan's CB550 - 069A Carb Question
« on: June 16, 2019, 12:19:26 PM »
I'm helping my nephew rebuild a 76 CB550 F. With the help of Jim French's micro welding the carbs are going back together.  I have run into a problem assembling the slide linkage.  I can not get all the spacers and parts to fit the available space.

These photos should help illustrate the problem.

There is not enough clearance to install the spacer on the left into the carb and onto the shaft.

A photo of the parts as assembled on the right side of the shaft.

I can't be the first to run into this problem.  What am I missing?

I think all those components on the right side of the arm in the first picture (all the components on the shaft in your second image) should be on the outside of the carb body.

I hope that makes sense? There should also be a felt seal inserted into the carb body first aswell before that shaft with the components on slides in.

The carb diagram in the manual should show all of this..

Thanks Rosewood!  I see my mistake now.  That is a great carb rebuild document.

We have made good progress on Jordan's carbs.  Just a couple parts to identify!

These parts were included in his zinc plating order.  I think they go to the carbs.  Can anyone help me identify them?

Is the round slotted screw in the picture is in the correct location?  Should it have a spring on it?

Wishing we had taken a few more "before" pictures!

Rocket I'm sure those parts aren't carb related. The one on the left attaches to the frame under a coil mount I think or somewhere around there. The one on the right is part of the center stand assembly. I will try and find some pictures of where they were on my bike  when I took it all apart..

Here you go.....this is where they came from on my bike...not sure of their exact purpose. maybe someone else might know more than me.

I think the one on the right may have something to do with holding the battery drain tube?

One more mystery solved. Thanks Rosewood!  Any chance you can help identify/clarify if the round slotted screw is correct?

This should show it. part of the throttle stop. I think it needs to go in the other way and yes with a spring to hold it position.

Looks like I should pick up a Haynes manual for reference. Thanks Rosewood.
