'75 CB750f SS Oil Sump Question
« on: June 16, 2019, 10:36:12 PM »
I'm sure this has been beaten to death already but wondering if I have to add any oil into the left side case before I turn it on.. I pulled it to inspect what was going on in there and it dumped a bunch of oil, but theres still almost a full sump under the right side cover.. its safe to turn the engine on? Im guessing if yes, then I'll have to add some of the oil in the sump to recover the loss from the left side crank.
Also can somebody explain to me the mechanism that makes the oil leave the sump? My thought has always been that its a gravity feed-type system, but that doesn't make much sense now that theres nothing in the bottom of the engine and still a lot left in the sump.

Thank you, sorry if this has been beaten to death a million times already.

That is why it is called a dry sump system, and the only place to measure the quantity of oil is with the stick in the oiltank on the left side, when the oil is between the marks on the stick all is well.

Do you think your oil tank level is lower, after sitting awhile, than it was just after shutting it off....?
Attached is how Honda explains how it all works......
