57mm piston rings help
« on: June 17, 2019, 03:01:45 pm »
well, just as i was going to button up the top end with a new rings kit, turns out seller sent me a 58mm kit and not a 57mm as i need! Worse, these Akunar people in Thailand who made wonderful pistons went out of business...

so then, if anyone can think of a source for 57mm thin racing rings, ill be glad to hear

it's a three rings piston, top two ones are 0.8mm, the three piece oil ring is 1.4mm

thin, i know, these were performance pistons.

Would Davies Motorsport be worth a call TG? Not sure if the bore of their slipper piston is stock size or OS though.

Try Hastings or Total Seal.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

tnxs guys

looks like the shop i purchased from was just a merchant who went pop, found the original mfg. and contacted him, so fingers crossed.

Cant say enough about these made in thailand pistons, looks like with all the small bore 150cc  moped racing going on there, they perfected their art pretty well

for those who thought that moto 3 racing is close :)

Hey TG, Wiseco doesn't use any 57mm. He contacted ProX (their sister company) in The Netherlands and will get back to me.  Stand by

TG I've spoken with John Davies and their 500 engines run stock diameter piston & rings I'm afraid

tnxs rod!

You're welcome. There is another option depending on how deep your pockets are, we have a well kept secret in our neck of the woods, Omega, they make their own rings for their pistons and will do one-off runs, but minimum of 12 sets I think. I first came across them back in the day when I was involved with single seaters (F1 & F2), their work is top drawer.

My Wiseco guy said he would only hear back tomorrow from ProX.

My son sourced some rings for his FZR400 from a Japanese company. I'll get their name too.

That's the one TG. They were quality rings when we couldn't find stock parts for all the world. I seem recall they offered many sizes. As a matter if fact I believe I remember hearing they were reproducing OEM rings, not sure it that's gospel !

TG, I found out this morning that ProX does not have access to those rings. Sorry.

Good luck, surely there is a Japanese company making them.

issue solved.... stimulated by an email from Brent, i decided to check one more time and found the supplier through his facebook account! I don't have FB, used my girlfriend's account, so guess this guy in Thailand must have freaked out when this Italian girl asked him for four sets of 57mm piston rings :)
they are on their way here, but probably it'll be too late to do any races this year, maybe maybe Misano in October but would have to make a racing license ofr just one race. there's always next season...
