So its been a while since I've posted but I try to keep up when I can. New riding season has just started after some relentless rain and my K2 still runs like a champ. Some of you may know that I was still driving my first car (used 2001 Chevy Prizm) I bought back in college and this spring I finally rolled past 250K miles on it. After that milestone I decided its time to let it retire in peace, and finally purchased my first new car, a 2019 Honda Civic over the memorial day weekend. Its a Honda, I like it, its definitely a change and it will never be my Chevy, but its very nice. The salesman I worked with tried to pull his usual list of scams and I quickly had him back off, especially on (additional) Honda parts/accessories pricing. Every time I called his BS on overpriced crap, he'd ask "How do you know it costs less from a genuine Honda source?". I told him about my NOS 750 and how it has parts from damn near every Honda dealer in the US and others from six other countries. We cut to the chase and he sold me the car at my asking price. He was obviously blown away by the pictures I showed him of the resto and couldn't stop singing praises.
So anyway, I got a letter in the mail last week saying that I needed to come in to the dealership and pick up the final paperwork. I decided to ride my K2 in, fully expecting a bunch of these guys were going to gush over it. Boy did I underestimate that! The moment I pulled in and set it on the kickstand, I had a small crowd circling me, hovering all over and asking a million questions. As politely as I could, I answered some, then I had to go in and get my paperwork before they close (I went in the evening after work). They were all respectful enough to step back a bit and admire it from a distance. I came back out 15mins later, and pretty much every guy from the service area, the sales staff and a bunch of customers had gathered around. And the second round of questions started, tons of ooooh! aaah! nooicccee!! blah grah.
I thanked everyone for their kind words and started getting ready to leave. Suddenly, I start panicking, thinking now after all this crowd pleasing, the worst thing that can happen to me is this thing not starting
But this is my K2
I turned the key and fuel, looked around, nodded, observing how quiet everything has gotten. And then one kick! It roared, in its iconic deep "Brrrooooom"! echoing across the building and parking. I breathed a sigh of relief. The crowd just lots it after that and I heard cheering and applause
I rode off, waved as I got back on to the street, and now my face hurts from not being able to stop smiling
