Were early rear hubs/backing plate clear coated?
« on: June 25, 2019, 07:52:58 PM »
I'm refinishing 1969 (die cast) rear wheel parts and have questions on originality. Were the rear wheel hub spoke flanges (not the inner fins) and the brake backing plate originally factory clear coated? It's hard to tell after 50 years and I want to know what's correct.

Sandman...... i’ll be interested to hear what others suggest. I’ve just done two of these (1969-70 die casts) and you maybe correct! Or, perhaps it was a silver finish that cracked and yellowed over 50 years? Very hard to tell.......

They were clear-coated.
