right guage Q?

 I've never been on one that runs. How useful is the right gauge that has the shift indicators in it in a racing situation? I considered putting a tach on it and moving this gauge to the left side or leaving it off and using an electric tach.

not that I race mine it is just a suggestion on which gear to use.1st or low according to speedo is good to about 550 or so.if its a full out drag bike lose the speedo and run a tach otherwise shift by ear

On my 78A, I'm replacing the right guage with a standard tach.
