Oil Seepage on Fins
« on: June 23, 2019, 08:23:18 PM »
Hey all - new to the forums.  Looking to finally tackle some oil seepage on the engine fins.  This will be the first time opening up the top end for me so would like some advice on:

1) most common root causes of the seepage (am thinking head gasket)
2) recommendations on parts brands to address seepage
3) other things to do "while in there"

TIA

Personally, I would tackle that slight oil seepage with some Q-tips. ;) How is the bike running, or is it? I noticed the Dyna ignition is set to the maximum advance, which might make starting a bit hard.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

Haha thanks Scottly.

That pic is post washing the bike, but even before the wash the seepage was really more of a dark stain than anything.  Perhaps I'll wait on the teardown.

I just got around to installing the dyna s.  Waiting to wire up the new coils before setting the timing.

Yeah, wait on the tear-down until you have an idea what you're working with. Don't fix it if it ain't broke.. ;)

Agree not to touch it.  Make sure you’re using the correct weight motorcycle oil and I prefer conventional over synthetic.

Once you get it running, keep an eye on the oil level and keep it topped up.  If it gets excessive, then open her up.

In the meantime cotton clothesline rope pushed in there makes a great sponge.
