Oil light immediately after running
« on: June 22, 2019, 08:20:32 AM »
My oil pressure light turns off when running but turns on immediately after turning off the engine. Any ideas why it’s not holding pressure after running?

Doesnt mean its not holding pressure, which only happens for a second or two anyway, but could be switch operating pressure altered with age

It is a new aftermarket switch. I could put the old one back in because I don’t think anything is wrong with it. (I originally thought it was broken but was due to a different issue). but it’s a pain in the ass under those carbs.

Frequently aftermarket ones are car ones that fit and car ones definately work at different pressures, as long as its off when running everything should be ok

That's is normal for me, both my CB750's lit oil warning almost direct at ign off.
Oil pressure gauge is a good modification that will show how the pump works and oil  behavior that will change when really hot. Visible when riding, just a quick look now and then.
If oil pressure will lit/flicker at idle when engine is really warm, invest in new rotors as forum member MessnerMoto has done and sell.

Good to know about the rotors. I was considering a pressure gauge if I became too worried.

Slightly different animal, but my 350F oil light comes on pretty quick after stopping the engine.  I just turn it off with the key switch so I don't worry about it anymore.
(Oil light used to flicker then come on steady at idle after only 15-20 minutes of riding.  Replaced the OEM switch with one from 4into1 and it stays off anytime the engine is running.)
