Possible bent shift fork, 1975 CB400F
« on: June 25, 2019, 12:43:49 PM »
This may sound like a familiar tune:

Had the kickstand down halfway and leaned the bike down on the left side, bending not only my rearset gear shift pedal but now possibly bending the shift fork inside the case.

1st gear now lurches/jerks - mainly from idle but does not lurch upon deceleration.

I purchased a set of shift forks on eBay with this picture as reference and realized later that there may be signs of wear or slight bends in these forks as well.

What are some other things to look out for while I would have the case open? I’ll also look out for obvious gouges in the shift drum. Anything else?

My 750 had a bent shifter fork and there was scoring on the fork...it was very obvious...

Ah, I’ll be on the lookout for something like that. Thanks, SKTP. All running better now after a swap?

It took me 2 tries...I put one gear in the wrong way and couldn't stay in 5th

On my 1978 CB750K there's one gear that is very slightly offset and I couldn't find any good images of which way it went it...until it was too late

EDIT: Oh yeah I had it back cut for the second time too...it shifts really nicely and I got NOS shifter forks...
