fitting a 76' 750f rear wheel onto a 78' 750f
« on: April 02, 2020, 11:39:13 AM »
Hey guys, hope everyone is well and healthy.

Ive got a 78 cb750f. I'm swapping the comstar wheels for spoked wheels. The front was easy since it has a gsxr front end and cognitomoto sells a bolt on laced front wheel hub. The rear wheel is where i'm confused. One of the forum members graciously sold me a 76' rear wheel hub. Until just recently I thought it was a no brainer bolt on swap since they both are disc brake. Apparently its not a direct swap. Can anyone provide some info on how to fit a 76'cb750f rear wheel hub onto a 78' 750f?

I still have the 78' comstar wheels and all their parts.

Hope everyone is safe during this craziness.

The 77-78 F uses a different (wider) size chain (630 vs 530) and the front sprocket is a few MM farther out than the wire wheel bikes, so you may need to get an offset rear sprocket to properly align the chain using a wire wheel rear.

I know that the spacing on the rear caliper holders is identical between the wire wheel and Comstar bikes (my F1 has the rear caliper and arm from an F3).

You will need to use the 78 F rear sprocket carrier on the 76 hub. 10mm offset on 77/78's. The sprocket carrier accounts for this additional 10mm. Spacers etc are the same.
