Should I sell the 550
« on: February 01, 2007, 06:31:08 AM »
I responded to a want add on craigslist yesterday and I've been emailing back and forth with the potential buyer.  He really likes the bike and what I've done to it.  If he likes my price I may sell it but really not sure.  I'd love to have a more modern "new" bike and not have to worry or constantly think of fixing it up better than it is.  I really love my 550 and have had it for about 6 years and not sure how I'd feel about someone else riding it actually in my town.  Not really sure what to do. I'd really miss this forum for all the help and friends on it and probably wouldn't get another SOHC for along time.

Just not sure.  Always wanted to have a new bike and an older bike to just play with.  But if the price is right and the offer was made I'd really have to think about it.

What would everyone else do?

Assuming that it runs as nicely as it looks, I'd sell and ship it to me REAL CHEAP!   ;D

Seriously, that's a pretty good looking bike.  Some folks tire of the same old thing after six years.  Me, I'd enjoy having something that is definately special compared to all the clone bikes out there.  Has it been giving you trouble?  Can you afford to keep it and still think about another bike?  Will it really fetch enough to make a real difference on the outlay for a newer bike (new bikes seem awfully pricey to me).

Good luck.  I think just thinking about it must be torture.

I'm on my 3rd 400 for similar reasons.  I have to bite the bullet and realize that it's what I consider a "core" bike.  I'm PO'd at mine right now, as a matter of fact, but there's no way I'll sell it.  After I sell one, I always end up missing it too much.
Put your 550 in moth ballsif necessary, and get a newer used bike too.  No need to pay full retail for new technology and supposedly better handling.
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

This is what I would do also, unless it is just not financially possible. Regrets are a b!tch to live with.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Yeah, it doesn't cost me anything to keep the bike except normal operating costs.  It runs like a top except for the small weep at the head gasket.  Its not a financial issue for maybe selling, just I think a need for something new(er)...  I'll probably just keep it as I've put alot into it and do enjoy it alot.  We'll see.  Looking to buy a house soon so can't really get a new bike right now if I wanted too and the CB's paid for.  One thing I've realized in the past when I sold my 2 prevous bikes is that I didn't have something else to ride.  I'd hate for spring to come around and have nothing to ride.  Think I just answered my own question.
