“Mystery Bit”. Can you Identify???
« on: July 02, 2019, 09:11:55 AM »
I’m cleaning up a 1970 CB750K0 engine. It was running fine, engine out and cleaning for a fresh coat of paint and polished covers. No leaks, tight and excellent compression and leak down tests. I pulled of the sump pan to check the intake screen (it’s spotless) BUT, this part (see photo) was laying in the bottom! Triangular, it’s approximately 14 X 25mm and 3.5mm thick. Non-ferrous. Could be the corner of a cylinder head cooling fin (obviously not), seems to have stress cracked and fallen off somewhere inside?

Anyone seen anything like this? There is no other filings or “silt”, so no intentions of digging any further. Appreciate input!

That the little thingy of unknown purpose that is in the lower case near the front under the main journals near the center close to the tensioner. I have a piece just like that and mine is no longer attached.

I would like to know it's purpose???!!! if there is an official explanation.

It's an oil deflector of course. I just made that up, but it might be true.

Thereis  a few webs in the motor  towards the front, when you break a rod chunks like that come off. It will live without it.

Maybe this from a loose chain contact, John?

Not sure, the bolt holes below that piece are for the main chain tensioner which is really close..
