CB550 brake upgrade
« on: July 04, 2019, 04:28:29 PM »
77 CB550K

Originally I wanted to just add a second caliper for dual disc setup, and started wondering if there is a worthwhile benefit to just throw on both front calipers from a CB750?

So did some research read that post K3 CB750 calipers will fit onto the 550 forks if also used with 750 brackets and rotors... but, this combo would only fit K1-K2 550’s (is this correct??)

Or will K3-K6 750 calipers/brackets/rotors also fit onto K3 550 forks too?

Is there a worthwhile benefit to upgrading to 750 brakes vs the 550 dual disc?

Thank you in advance for any help.

In my experience, the 550 set up is actually better than the 750 in terms of braking performance so I don't think you will gain anything.
Dual discs would be a better option I believe.

Ah okay, great to hear. Thanks!

So the 550 brake calipers and brackets are interchangeable from left/right, correct? (just not the dust covers?).

Also, what size master cylinder is ideal for dual disc 550 setup?

Thanks again!

There's a "how to guide" here on this forum - go to "Manuals and Technical Documents" and scroll down the CB550 list.
