73' 750/four K1 trying to track down too much oil on chain (leak)

I have replaced the countershaft seal, plugged the chain oiler port with aftermarket metal plug and still have too much oil on the chain. Throwing oil onto left side of rear tire and creeping around. ie. left turns are sketchy. I've been through four shiftcase gaskets now and still haven't been able find it. Not to mention that when the covers are off and looking at the front sprocket, everything is dry, no excess visible oil anywhere. Has anyone been down this road? getting tired of draining and burning through $10 gaskets. Thanks.

 Have you ran it (carefully) in gear and out of gear on the center stand with the cover off?

Remove sprocket cover, clean reasonably well, gunk and brush and hose off. Leave cover off, wear boots, be carefull not to get foot in their. Start riding until u can see where the oil is coming from!

It's not the breather tube as I've eliminated that option with a catch can temporarily. I will definitely try opening up the cover and running it. Should I expect a mess of oil all over due to shift cover being off? TIA.

Only remove the sprocket cover, if you want to run it. Have you replaced the shifter seal and checked the neutral switch?

Just the sprocket cover, if u wiggle it just right it will come out without removing the front cover.

Ahhhh yes, just the sprocket cover. never been able to get just that off but will try the right wiggle again. I have not looked at the neutral switch, I will do so as well.  Thanks guys!!

First off, Thank you guys so much for the info!! Problem solved! The most helpful suggestion was running it with the sprocket cover off and just simply looking for the oil. WHICH was not the oiler or the seal...... Hairline crack in the case due to a loose or broken chain at some point that slapped the case. A little bit of waterweld/alumiweld over the crack and whalaa! no more oil!
