Any on-line auto parts store should carry oil cooler/ auto transmission hose (what I use for my oil cooler kits) just measure the pipe mate, it'll be either 5/16" (8mm) or 3/8" (10mm) OD. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Oil tank all installed now permanently, had to drill out one of the mounts "broken bolt" :P.

Swing Arm Question:

Does the felt ring get put on the end of the thrust bushing and then installed or do I push the felt ring into the arm 1st up against the pivot bushing, then put on the thrust bushing?

Clymer Honda 69-78 Manual  page 165 at the bottom, figure (7)

Thanks for any help, trying to get this done today.

it seemed to me an easy question for anyone who re did their swing arm recently :-\

My last one like this was 3/12 years ago and I probably did it wrong then ::)

My shop manual is VERY vague. "apply a liberal amount of grease on the pivot collar and assemble it into the rear fork. Insert the pivot bolt from the right side while holding the dust seal caps on both sides of the rear fork, and then install and tighten the 14mm self lock nut."

The picture shows the rear fork pivot bushing going in first, the felt ring next, the pivot thrust bush next, then the dust seal cap, washer, then self lock nut.

Hope this helps.

Jerry

Thanks. I read the same thing. There is a groove just inside the swing arm that the felt would go into allowing the thrust bushing to be flat against the arm when it is pushed on. my felts are a bit big now that I tried it the other way.

2nd way. slip felt over the ridge on the thrust bushing and then install. The felt would now act as a cushion of sorts between the end of the swing arm and the trust bushing.   Does that make any sense?

I'm still looking for the right way..anyone?

Thanks. I have figured out which order they go on. Still no clear answer on the felt ring.

stuff the felt into the arm 1st bushing would then be flush when put on.

or lay it around the thrust bushing? becoming a cushion.

Either way it goes in 1st, just where exactly........?
One is now broken, both are stretched out  ::)

My vote is your 1st picture - stuff it in first. This way it acts as somewhat of a lubricating seal. Seals between the 2 bushings and between the bushings and the swing arm pivot bolt all the while lubricating the pivot bolt and keeping crud out?? Clymer's, Chilton's, nor Honda's manuals do not help BUT, at least, I discovered I don't have this felt seal on my F thank goodness!

BUT, on the other hand, I can not say for sure.

Hondaman, oh Hondaman, where for art thou?? Your swing arm intelligence is needed.

It defiantly goes in first, no question about it.

I was thinking of replacing it with a rubber o-ring .  Think thats a bad idea?  ??? Would that even work as a barrier against the grease?

Did you just cut some felt to make a new one?

Rx, Clevland,  that was the way I was going to go tomorrow with out any more input . Thanks.

I think the next time I remove my 78 swing arm, I'll take a look, but I don't remember them felt widgets :o

I got the felts on Ebay at some guys online store selling the caps & felts together. Sorry can't remember the vendor. :-[

here are a couple threads on changing them over to rubber. "I did search first" ;D

They are far to big, I just bought another one on Ebay a couple of weeks ago, it should bolt right up.

Polish, Polish and a bit more put together.

How do I take the front brake pivot arm out to lubricate it?  One of them was fine the other is VERY stiff! I did get the top off ;D "I tried a search, no could find"

P.S. I now realize one of my forks is longer/shorter than the other one. :o
The only thing I can think of there is that I bought one of the tubes from" sirg" and it must have not been correct it was off a 75F???  Any one have a good fork tube for a 72K?

G'Day Derek, the pivot pin on the brakes should just push out, but if it's stiff you may need to carefully tap it out with a soft aluminum or copper drift, then clean it up on a wire wheel and use some good grease or anti sieze compound.

35mm fork legs come in different lengths, depending on the model they come off. F2 fork legs will work, but they're longer, as are K7/8 legs, and I think 900F legs are longer again. I used Suzuki GS750 tubes (better dampers) on my K1 and they were a good inch longer than the K3-6 legs I'd been using prior.

Your new fork brace isn't a fork brace as such, it's a chopper "Tweek bar" that clamps onto the extended fork tubes (not the sliders) on a chopper about half way between the lower triple and the front wheel, to reduce fork flex. Sadly it won't do you much good on a normal bike, it'll just reduce your fork travel, with a thump. Cheers, Terry. ;D
