Looks good Derek! Forgot about Fred, he saved me a lot of agony by finding my '69 frame was bent and the '71 was straight. I'll give him a call and maybe get in line so I don't slow yours down. What rear shocks are those on the back of the '78? Swap meet/show and shine 7 weeks away, will the Tracy be ready then? My build will certainly not be, have to take the red one again.

Shocks were from Old Bike Barn, and I doubt I will not have the new one ready, but I will get both of the others over this year

Ya know, that 78 will get lonely outside. You can keep it in my garage.

I can even put an old BC plate on one of our bikes to make it feel more at home...

Of course, it'll need occasional riding to keep in proper form...

Dropped off my other spare motor to my engine build guy. He tore into the K8 and had found a broken rod in the bottom but it had a real nice heavy duty cam chain that must have been recently installed. The bottom of the K5 motor I took over to him looks beautiful inside with what looks like very, very low milage so we are going to use both to make up the power for this build.

Dropped off the head and block at a machine shop on the way home to get the block bored out and to have both bead blasted. Going to go with Cycle Exchanges 836 kit and a Megacycle 125-05 340lift / 246 degree cam unless someone has had bad results with this combo. My builder says it should provide me with a smooth throttle and the hpr I want.

Recommendations for an online elect ignition? Last one I got was purchased through my Honda shop, suppose I could do that again?

Here's the rub......I need to pick my body colors now so I can match the engine paint accents I want before I give it back for the final motor build/......oh the pain in having to make those decisions so early on. $:-\$

Dark charcoal grey, with orange or yellow pin stripes, (three tone, three stripe). Silver frame. But then again my color sense is a little off.

Spent the day seeing what kind of shape the chrome was in. "My fingers hurt".
I'm happy with it and will put the saved money into the motor

You need to get in touch with that Chrome Tank dude that doesn't post here anymore......tell him you need his chrome tank to go with your chrome frame!!!!! Slap a black motor in it and other black accents.....man.....that would look hella killer and definitely be one off!!!!

Nev R Dull was made just for that frame. Is the chrome in pretty decent shape? Looks good. How about alot of black on the engine to offset that chrome? Black engine with polished fins on the head, silver jugs, black chrome valve cover.

No idea. My best guess would be it was removed when frame was chromed and put back on that side.

As I'm sure you know...the VIN is stamped into the neck on the stock frame. I was wondering if that VIN plate is covering the stamped # or maybe that frame doesn't have a stamped #.

I would keep the engine silver and polish up or chrome the side covers (gear, alternator, clutch etc) and then get some chrome sidecovers, with chrome fork tubes, headlight shell, gauge covers etc etc....and chrome tank - then you will be near "invisible" as the reflection will make it look like you arent really there....that or you will look like the Silver Surfer

Cool in both cases I think :-)

Seems some of you forgot the "Tracy" aspect of this bike. Seat, sides, tankare all one piece. NO CHROME TANK.
I'm leaning towards a black engine a bit now.

Tag is indeed riveted to the same side as the stamped number, but does not overlap.

Ordered 836 kit,head gasket, clutch, springs,cyl studs, oil seal kit, gasket kit, cam, DYNA S Electronic Ignition yesterday.

Machine shop called today that the head and block are ready for pick up. Now its engine paint time.

Been doing that polish thing today and got 1 fork done. I'm really starting to hate polishing aluminum!

I've heard stuff like this alot on this site. I just don't see why anyone should be expected to be meek, and soft spoken when it comes to their artwork. Fine if you are, but if you are proud of it- HOLLA! Right? I find that those who don't brag are either
A. exceptionally humble people (which is a truly great virtue) or more likely-
B. They simply don't have anything of their own to bragg on.

Don't take this wrong Chris, it's not a shot at you in any way. I actually just like it when people are very confident in what they do. Also, as far as I can tell- he has the biggest trumpet on the market- he should blow it.

JP for ref I agree. But Carpy could have gotten decent money for the Tracy project if he just got the papers straight. From what I know he did not have papers on that bike. We did not have papers for Home Wrecker either when it was done, but we went the extra mile to make sure we would and sold it.

There is no real reason for parting this bike down of his when a frame with paper could be had for less than a $100. There is just no excuse for this. But IT IS HIS PROJECT TO WITH AS HE SEES FIT.

ElCheapo that may be true about the papers but if you had looked at his site last year the Tracy bike was on sale for $8000. It didnt sell. What are you going to do - keep waiting? Im guessing he`ll sell the body and then add another tank/seat and sell the bike after this....maybe there is just not a market for Tracys....

I suppose, but last I knew he had no papers for it and that can be a big thing.

Which could be why hes redoing the bike its attatched to as a race bike. Hell if i had the $$ i would buy that body..its hot as hell.
