Thats what I'm talkin bout!!!!!......is that Gordon's frame kit there ya got chromed?? Very nice!!!! Been meaning to ask you Seaweb.....did you ever get your fork brace from Terry? I'm wanting one too and wonder if it makes a difference.Let me know.

The entire frame is chromed, the kit has been tig welded in. I will take some closer photos of the installation later for those that might be interested in putting your own in. (I know some guys still have it sitting on a shelf ;D)

The guys who did the frame work were a VERY small shop I was turned on to by my Chopper buddy on Island.
The shop looked like #$%* which scared me a bit, but I came around after about 10 mins.  I'm pretty good at being aggressive enough when I want to do business, that you WILL NOT attempt something for me unless you have passed the 3 question test.

TEST:
#1 Are they going to approach this job with enthusiasm?       "always try and make them feel like THIS job is very important".
#2 Are they approaching this job with Exuberance?               "Do they really want the job? Excited? "
#3 Are they approaching the job with unbridled Experience?   ""Can they do it with my confidence?"

$400.00 bucks may seem a bit steep, but it was 3 1/2 hours for the frame cut/weld,  also fixing/welding the bent steering lock and cut off the center stand hardware on the frame. All I know is"I cant weld yet"  and it looks like they did a job well done.

Now as for your question about Terry..........................
That was 6 months ago.............where are ya dude?  The 78 forks? The 72 forks?  I'm not fussy ;D
I did start this fork brace madness in you did I not?

How do Canadian dollars compare to US ones ?

Sam.
                                                                                                  (decimals have now been moved)
The costs of parts would be in US dollars. The CDN and US currency is almost at par. $1.10 CDN for a US $1.00
Basically the same-$670.00

Decimal point has now been corrected above.

Total cost approx $7275.35 US  thats   727.50 at 10% exchange ,  Its not $670.00 anymore, I have been modifying & adding costs up above in thread :o

Yeah....I know the frame is chromed and then you discovered the neck was bent!! Did you ever get any satisfaction from the guy that sold it to you? So now you have spent  to have the neck straightened out. What I am wanting to know is how much did it cost to have someone install Gordon's kit plus chrome it. I also have the kit but I want to hang on to it for a future project.

Correct me if I'm wrong Seaweb, but I'd say the frame hasn't been rechromed, the welded in kit looks like uncoated steel to me

To rechrome it to the xisting standard would cost a small fortune :o

Breeze, do you have you a different kit?
Mine just had the end pieces, you cut the existing frame and slide the pieces into "mine chrome" "yours black" and tig them in place.
Same frame, just with the added slip fitings.
Look at your kit and look at my photos again. I don't think you got the frame with yours did you?

Frame Mod kit cut/weld/install $400.00

Derek, I just noticed - there is a huge problem. They messed up the install. They have left off the front inserts and removable section. This is critical for clearance of the head cover. I had to design that in there in order to give the stock key mount location and keep the kit hidden under the tank. What they have done is left those pieces off not realizing it's purpose. You will not have the clearance to lift-off the cover and remove the head. Trust me, I've learned the hard way - doing it twice. I measured and worked out the specs for the kit carefully. What is worse, they would have had to take the threaded rod out of the front joints because I "Red Loctite" those grade 8 threads into the joints for the very reason they are not removable. Call me.

Have a look - Regards,
Gordon

Derek, yes he called me. He was a very nice guy and admitted that he did not know where the engine's head came to and did not know about the clearance issues. The inserts, threaded rods, and jam nuts are up inside the frame. I told him if needed anthing to call me or let you know - I'll supply it.

Yes, it looks to be an easy fix.

Keep me posted.

It's summer time.and 3 bikes that run!
Next step is re-chromeing a bunch of stuff$$$$$  I'd rather spend $$ this time of the year on Beer ;D  It just seems to nice to go into the shop ??? If I do it now, I'll have nothing to do when the rain starts again.

I'm still in need of a chrome tripple tree since my latest Ebay screw-over.

thanks for asking, I will post when I get back at it.

Well Gents, the winter approaches. ........Time for a new one!  Picked up the frame and assorted parts in Vancouver today. It cost a bundle, but I wanted a solid platform to start with and the old chrome just wasn't up to it.

836 Rebuilt engine ready to go in this weekend, my mom is here and she said she would help as the rest of the family is out tomorrow.  This ought to be fun. Never turn down free labour.

You wouldn,t have a spare clutch cover and matching alternator cover like on your engine you want to sell by any chance ??
