Cup is just another term for the races. Got it all set up, feels a little “floaty” so may need to tighten the spanner nut.  I was able to get the spanner nut on without grinding off the notches, though I had to compress the assembly without the upper seal once before finally installing the spanner nut with the seal.

I was able to put the spanner nut on without grinding was well, but it only left 1-2 turns of threads for the chrome top nut. I ground off the notches to give myself more purchase there. Also I think the pressure will be better distributed on the seal without the notches.
