79 cb650 no power
« on: July 14, 2019, 01:33:32 pm »
Hello everyone.  I just received a cb650 as a project.  I'm having an issue getting power to anything.  I've replaced the starter relay and main wiring harness.  It has a brand new but battery.  The neutral light is on with or without the key.  I've unplugged the ignition and the light is still on.  Any info the help point me in the right direction would be great.  I'm not trying to start the bike just get it powered up.

Power travels from the battery + terminal through fuse to ignition switch, switched on, black and red wires are joined.
Neutral light on means switch has failed or more likely someone jumped red and black wires together somewhere in harness.

The main harness is brand new so jumped wires shouldn't be the issue.  What failed switch are you referring to?

Connect volt meter to black lead, disconnect ignition switch, if volt meter goes zero volts then you have bad ignition switch.
If volt meter stays 12 volts disconnect wires one at at time watching volt meter.
