1980 Suzuki GS1000E noisy gearbox?
« on: July 11, 2019, 08:03:36 PM »
Hello,
'New to forum.
My past experience is with Honda and Yamaha's, but today I went and looked at a 1980 GS1000. The electrical has been upgraded, has 40k miles and no smoke on start up.
My question is: When he started it the gearbox/starter area sounded really loud and loose. It would go away after 1500rpm but at idle it was rattling loud. Is this normal on a 1000 with a chain drive? My Hondas and Yamahas are quiet, but they are shaft drive.

Thank You!

It is normaly the Cush drive springs that wear . They are located on the back of the clutch basket . Easy enough to change . You can get a heavy duty set which is better . You do have to weld new rivets back In when you are finished though . If that is a hassle you can buy a basket already done .
