Topic: Yamiya CB750 New Tank/Fuel Cap and HOW to store OLD fuel tank

Im swapping over from the grey blue tank I have (seen below) to the silver tank from Yamiya. Ive been told there arent many silver 1972 CB750s in the USA as they were only released in Japan.

My question is, I bought the fuel cap with the locking mechanic (with a key). Do I need any special tools to install it on the gas tank properly?

And whats the best way to store the old tank to prevent rust?

No special tools are needed.  Just need to make sure you have the small parts in order.

What the best way to store the old take? I mean once i get the fuel out of it.

I coat the interior with marvel mystery oil and just store it my garage.

 Some fuel caps/locks are held in place with a rivet and the end of the rivet has been "rolled". You have to carefully drill out the mushroomed end so that you can remove the rivet. 90% of the time, they're no longer reusable.

 Some caps/locks use a long screw and a nut. Those are easy and reusable.

I already ordered a new fuel cap, and lock, petcock, petcock hardware and screen and washer set from Vintage750.com last night.

 You'll still need a screw or rivet for the front of the gas cap, too. That's what beemerbum was referring to; the hardware Hondaman sells.

So what ALL the parts I need to affix this to the tank:

If fuel cap is aftermarket, check the gasket so it does not cover the ventilation hole. I use DSS aftermarket complete fuel cap on my K2. Parked with warm engine and tank almost full.
 Tank suddenly got a huge underpressure day after so I understood the vent was blocked. Replaced gasket with Honda stock gasket and it solved it.

I could have fixed the gasket by cutting it on inside around 1mm. It has a flange on inside, thinner than outside that seal against tank, important to mount it right.

 It was too wide covering the vent hole. I blew the vent hole with compressed air and heard the wide gasket flabber in the wind

 Looking closer at the description of the gas cap, it says "hinge pin with e-clip" is included, so you're probably good to go and don't need the Hondaman kit.

Now onto the fuel tank emblems....

Im not sure if the Yamiya tank is an EXACT replica of the 1972 tank. Not sure if I need clips with the emblems? Also, whats a good place to get the left and right side emblems from? Anyone from the site sell them? Id rather throw them the business.

The Yamiya tanks are exact replicas. (I have one on my K2) You will need the clips to affix the Honda badges. As far as I remember there is no left vs right side emblem, same part number.

Have you ordered a tank from them before? I ordered one on Saturday and am curious how soon they ship after you order. Time difference makes it hard to reach out to them.

Tank storage: I mix some two stroke oil with gasoline about 50/50. Swill it around inside the tank (everywhere) and then dump it. If you ever want to use the tank again, repeat once with some clean gas......  Storage location is most important. Somewhere there are no temperature fluctuations (to avoid condensation in the tank).

This is a photo taken the day after I got it. took the rack off etc etc. but gives you a better idea of the exhaust. I was a total noob when I bought it and GAVE AWAY the original exhaust. lol. hated the way they look

Original pipes are a fortune and add to the weight. To be honest, with my current tailpipes I think it will look SLEEK.

Yes, I ordered a complete body set as well as an exhaust system from them. Shipping has been pretty quick in my experience. It's been a couple years, but I want to say it took around 1 week or so to get my stuff after placing the order.

Yes, I ordered a complete body set as well as an exhaust system from them. Shipping has been pretty quick in my experience. It's been a couple years, but I want to say it took around 1 week or so to get my stuff after placing the order.

No problem,. Japan post handled the very well packaged tank with side covers and so did the customs.

I'm sure you want to order another set in another colour to change with.

4-4 exhaust ordered too?
Inspect that all pipes are correct 1,2,3,4 and verify all diffusers.
I got mixed when ordered Lotus Root pipes.
I got one No numbers. Possible the other way too.

PITA with customs that had to see the original custom number to let the replacement part go to me without customs fee, vat etc.

They do not trust a long heavy package written gift on.

I have ordered parts from Yamiya at least 12-15 times, only one mistake they sorted quickly.

all my old tank"s is filled a bit diesel,, 1 dl or less.
.and shake them..as often im at the attic

..just be shure theu dont leak..diesel is a mess..if it leak aut
